| first droop setup, need guidance
Hey guys this is my CR-01 with axial chassis plates I would like some constructive criticism. I have a 3 hole piston 1/4inch fuel tubing pen spring tiny spring on the outside. undecided on shock oil viscosity. Wheelbase is at 11.75 in skid clearance 2 1/4 in full droop 3.5inch I would like to try 1 hole piston 70 weight shock oil. a smaller piece of fuel tubing under the piston. full flex with fuel tubing in each shock. Should i put a smaller piece of fuel tubing to achieve more flex? |

how does those pen springs work out for you....i found some soft springs that are just a tad smaller then the inside dia of the losi shocks that would do the same thing, but ride on the outer dia of the shock valve disc....but i had only three of them and haven't look for simaler springs yet..........bob .... |

pens springs worked for me, and with the three hole damper you got, i dont think 60 or 90 would hurt. i run 60 in the trailbeat blazer and it loves it. |

If I changed it to a 1 hole piston and added 70 weight shock oil that would slow down the articulation a lot, and make it more predictable. One more question, should cut the piece of fuel tubing to give the rig back some articulation? Last edited by iwantoffroad; 01-05-2009 at 03:03 PM. |

A lot of this is dependent on your driving style/speed. I would say I drive slowly and don't like a lot of initial articulation. I prefer to see the balance of the rig before the articulation has reached maximum. It keeps me from making mistakes i.e. moving to quickly into a spot I don't need to be in. My rig (beckworks cobra) is set up with 104mm droop shocks up front - three hole piston, internal pen springs (not as long as yours) and up to 5000wt oil in the heat of summer and as light as 300 in the colder months. The rear using 60mm shocks, sprung and mounted about 1.5 inches forward of the rear axle. I really don't know what the hell I was trying to get to but basically you just have to run it!! And be prepared to make changes. When I decided to run droop up I first bought 50, 100, 200, and 300wt oil. Then after about a month went to the 1000, 3000, 5000 and never looked back - Good luck and have fun -Curt Last edited by crawlinghulls; 01-08-2009 at 03:31 PM. |

I agree on the heavier oil. I tried a mix of 5000wt and 100wt to try to get 1000wt but when I actually got some real 1000wt diff oil I realized what I mixed was way thicker. However, I got so used to that thicker oil I can't stand the 1000wt (too thin, lol). I am in the process of changing to 3000wt with 2 hole pistons. The thicker oil allows the tires to carry over holes but by pausing a little the tire settles right down when you want it. Hope this helps!

Hey there, just thaught I would share my setup with you. This is about my 7th different droop setup and my favorite by far. Traxxas big bores, 1/2'' shaft extensions, 3 hole pistons, Losi micro-t firm springs under piston, Losi mini-t medium springs outside, 50wt oil rear left and 45wt oil rest of the way around. Might not work for you but I figure the more input the better right! |

are you guys getting 1000+ oils that are from tranny and diffs from nitro's I like that idea along with the mini t spring idea. How much flex is average for a droop rig? Mine is pretty limited and I think it would help a lot if it had a little more flex. Lets see some max flex shots on a 2.2 comp legal droop rig Last edited by iwantoffroad; 01-08-2009 at 07:05 PM. |

Yeah, I use Ofna brand but there are others out there. Its still silicone fluid just thicker. Mine gets about 45-55 degrees of articulation (if thats what you mean by flex) and I put one axial rubber spacer on the exterior shaft to get my ride height. However, I am running a custom chassis so you might need more spacers to get the ride height you want. Here is a flex shot... Last edited by chops1sc; 01-08-2009 at 08:05 PM. |

I think I measured 40-45 degrees. My wife's torsion has less. It depends on your terrain - we run on alot of boulders and stacked/piled rock less articulation is great. Running on more continuous rock you can get away with more "flex", at least those are my experiences. |
