Default robot wars motor anyone?

The motor needed to produce enough torque weighs three pounds and costs like three hundred dallors. What would be the benifit of losing the tranny? Not wheight, not cost...simplicity maybe?

You are up to something aren't you?

I've tried a motor connected right to a 1.5:1 T-case, and that didnt work. Then I tried a motor and a GD600 right to the T-case and that didnt work either. Not enough gear reduction and/or torque to crawl the vehicle. I even ran 2 GD600's bolted together, but it didnt work well. I ended up using a stampede tranny with 1 GD600 and it was perfect.

don't give up yet. Here's a couple links to motors with planatary gear reductions on them. Just replace the motor with a lathe and you've got a reletively small transmission and motor. You'd just have to figure out how to drive both axles with one motor.

It might work... if you could find the biggest freaking spur and smallest freaking pinion you could, hooked to a 55 turn motor. Then get an axle like this, it might work...

Please tell me that is a model portal axle used to model something bigger; like a 1:20 scale UniMog axle...Otherwise how much would something like that cost?

I have a TLT with a RBX Laydown chassis and a Reflex 10 direct drive tranny and a 55 turn motor in it. I think I’m runny a 15 or 12 tooth pinion and a 87 or 92 tooth spur (can’t remember what combo I ended-up running). It crawlers ok, but it makes one hell of an all-around basher. You can get it down to a crawl very easily. No fat fingers here . But with a little “fat finger” it has a Sh@# lode of “Wheel Speed” . With a GD600 it would be easier to drive. But I like it the way it is.
Disclaimer I use my 2.2 Clod for a true rock crawler.

If you really want to reduce your tranny size the portal axle or planetary is best. I bet those portals that toyo posted are a grand a set or more (if you can get them). Planetary sets are loud and inefficient, but work well and are fairly cheap.
