Articulation Pro's and Con's
 

I have seen/heard a lot of people ask what the right amount of travel is for a shaft driven comp crawler. I decided to write an article for Axial's blog giving my opinions on suspension travel, and what guidelines I use to build new rigs. This is meant to help newcomers decide how much travel is enough, and how much is too much.

Thank you for the write up. Our club is full of new crawlers and this will come in handy as a teaching and learning tool.

I read this on the Axial website last night. Great article. For a noob to crawling like me articulation looks cool and all. I'm going to start dialing in the shocks a bit and add some thicker shock oil.

Great read. I always knew there was a point of diminishing returns, but I did not know that too much could actually hamper performance. Thanks for laying that out like that. It will definitely help me on the tuber I am making. I was worried I wouldn't have enough articulation, now I need to reevaluate and make sure I don't have too much!

So what is the best way to reduce articulation? My ax10 fully flexed is a little ridiculous. Do I need to get thicker oil in the shocks or do I need to do a different link set up? I guess what I am saying is I can make the thing articulate crazy but not sure how to reduce it.

Nice write- up. Like they say more is not always better.

Shorter Shocks. You can pull yours apart, put a 1/4 or 1/2 " spacer on the shaft above the piston and it will limit your travel and lower your height.

good read, I was a bit disappointed when I installed 100mm shocks on my axial, but now I think it will work just fine.

You and almost all of the top drivers that I have met have been more than happy to share their knowledge and it goes a long way in growing the hobby.

so 180 degrees of articulation is too much then??? :lmao: ....how do you measure articulation, is it by lifting a front tire up and when your rear tire comes off the ground the angle of your front axle is your degree of articulation??.............bob
