Default Gear oil in shocks?

Anyone ever try using gear oil? Like 95-140w? I have 40w shock oil right now and i need more. like 80 or so. And gear oil came to me.
Just looking for some $.02

Some use diff oil, silicone. Not the gear oil you speak of. I don't use it, but have 20k wt. Would move to slow for me.

Well diff fluid is gear oil.
