Instead of making the arm pivot in two spots you should make it solid with 2 single line pulleys at the top and some fixed pulleys at the base of the arm and rig it up like a 4:1 system or something then you could really lift some weight and only use the one motor.

The First idea with motor will be most powerful.

can u elaborate more on that?
r u saying dont have any moving parts on the arm(no pivots or extenders?), and just have it spin on the bottom or what?
(i want it to be able to reach a ok distance(longer than the truck without making the truck really long to carry the arm)

winch for the hook, and if you have the room you could rig up a micro hydraulic setup and have working boom extension and raise/lower.

well i was trying to figure out a way to raise and lower the boom, that hydrolic idea is good, but i dont know how to do it without haveing it cost alot, or with me knowing how to do it.
i would like something where it would raise, lower and maybe extend the boom, be able to lift 15-20 pounds, and swing it around. so it would need to rotate, i was thinking of using a motor and gears to rotate it.

i saw a servo that extends kind of a small linear actuator, i cant remember where i saw it. maybe you could use something like that to extend the boom if you go that route.

it will actually be used. im hoping to use it to pull/ lift trucks out of the mud, deep rivers that u dont want to walk in so u use the crane, or lift them up clifts.

I dont know if 5 channles will be enough, stering, throtle, front or rear winch?(least used could just use the remote that comes with it, motor to pull line for crane/spin and extend boom(might try to figure out if a dig trans would work to hook up to a winch and the spining part of the boom?)
so i dont know that would be best case

do the winches have to be wireless? somebody is gonna have to get dirty anyways to hook em up so that would free up one or two channels. this is a pretty sweet idea. i want to do something along those lines as well but i have too many projects at the moment.
