The Goliath

I was just wondering if the PTI Goliath is a good truck out of the box, and can it be turned into a good crawler if need be?:? I want to know if it's any good so i can see if i want to buy one soon.

It dosen't seem to be very popular, but a few people have made crawlers out of them. Do some searching, the PTI Goliath has been discussed here before. Here's one - PTI -vs- TLT

Out of the box

I just finished a Goliath kit. It's stock except for the battery box.
This what you get out of the box.

If your like me and plan to run your truck for a while stock and figure out what mods you wish to do this is fine start. I'm having fun with it stock, but see the possibilities of a great 2.2 crawler.
Good luck on your crawler.

A buddy of mine has one. He said its all good stuff but the parts don't fit right. He has had to retap holes and redrill holes but other than that its good. He still doesn't have it together so as far crawling goes couldn't tell ya.

Katfish, did you have problems with missing parts? Mine was missing a few ballstuds but I seemed to be one of the lucky ones. Other people have complained about missing quite a few parts. They may have fixed this problem by now.

But like Katfish said, it's perfect if you plan on running it stock for awhile.

Missing parts

You're right some of the parts are not a perfect fit. Isn't that what a kit means?

I had to grind the crosspins on the axle dogbones down 0.5 mm so they would clear the housing, as well as the ball ends of the axle dogbones at the diff end, at full stearing angle the were binding on the scew and nut inside the outdrive. Had to file the slots of the steal main drive so the drive shaft dogbone pins wouldn't bind. Also missinig 4 3x12mm machine screws.
It was a blast to build. Full mods later will be even more fun.

It's good to see that they're getting better with the quality control - for missing parts anyway. It's a shame they had so many problems right at the start. It's a great little truck and it developed a bad rep right from the get-go. Nice paintjob, by the way.

Thanks K B . It's my first build and my first paint. It sure was fun.

Never used an airbrush before. Not as difficult as I imagined. The masking was the teadius part.
