My Custom Built 1:24 Micro Crawler (Prototype) Just thought I would share with you all my prototype crawler i have been making, I havent got alot of pics but there is a video you can check out on YouTube. Let me know what you all think? Spec: 1:24 Scale Custom built brass chassis & axles (ruff prototypes) Range Rover Shell Twin Micro Geared Motors (30 rpm) TSL Boggers on Slammed Xmods Rims Standard ESC & RX MG90 Servo WEIGHT: 545g So far I am not happy with the steering angles (too small) and I am not happy with the ground clearance (too low), but as this is my first ever attempt at building from scratch I am happy with its overall performance. A complete new chassis, axles and design is underway, once complete this chassis will be retired to the shelf. <iframe src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/jW4z2S00iUQ" allowfullscreen="" width="560" frameborder="0" height="349"></iframe> http://www.davidfallsmith.com/crawle...s/IMAG0121.jpg http://www.davidfallsmith.com/crawle...s/IMAG0122.jpg http://www.davidfallsmith.com/crawle...s/IMAG0128.jpg http://www.davidfallsmith.com/crawle...s/IMAG0129.jpg http://www.davidfallsmith.com/crawle...s/IMAG0137.jpg http://www.davidfallsmith.com/crawler/ |

Thanks to all the comments so far. Im no engineer, I wish I was then it would be an even better design! This is my first attempt at making anything from scratch never mind soldering brass together, I have learned alot from the first design, the next one is already looking awesome... should be finished in a few weeks time. |
Hey just wondering how you welded it all together? What did you use? And looking forward to see what your gonna do with the next revision :) |

Wanting to do a scratch build of some sort. But ATM unsure how to hold it together and on designs. But yeah guess it should hold up nicely for 1/20th scale rigs? Might have a look around for one :) Think saw one the other day :) |
very nice work man thats sick...how long did it take too make?? |
very cool |

For my next rig I have found that alot fo the micro rc parts from other manufacturers are ideal. So I am using hubs, dog bones & aluminium rims from a Kyosho Mini-z AWD, Aluminium shocks from Hot Bodies for a Losi Micro Crawler. Gears (cogs) from HPI. And a few others here and there. I will post full specs when its finished. The biggest shock with this rig was how well the springs worked. I based the articulation on fixed front & rear bearings attached to the axles (similar to the xmods articulation). You dont need much bounce on a 1:24 crawler. The springs basically suspended the chassis. Works very well, although im going for shocks and link arms for the next design. Thanks for all the positive comments. |
Wicked cool! That thing crawls great! |
