Default Vendors or anyone

Can someone please consider machining a full spool and ring gear for TLT axles? The cast aluminum gears just don't hold up. Maybe machine out of a stronger steel so they don't strip out like the stock junk in there right now? Possibly better shafts too? I don't have access to a mill, but surely someone has to. If making ring and pinions, there is always the possibility of different gear ratios if the housing is big enough...

Are you running bearings or bushings?

Yeah? What the hell are you doing to strip them? Next time pick it up and pick a new line

Cant say I have either, I use ball bearings and a thick white lithium paste grease in the gears. There is also a tread somewhere about shimming the pinion gear too which helps. I wouldnt mind have upgraded axles and I will admit that a full spooled gear would be cool

I've gone through two sets of R&P's now, pinion's got the shim in there to keep it tight, and I've never snapped an axle shaft. So I don't know what I'm doing, but they keep going. I've got bushings in there now; but a TLT sitting here with bearings, so maybe I'll toss those in there and see what happens.

It'd still be nice to have a better quality gearset. It'd reduce weight too.

you dont want ot reduce weight in the axles..........but higher up.......you wnat the axles heavy!

I'll bet that's why you're having problems. Bushings wear very quickly. When they do wear, the gear mesh is constantly changing. The mesh will keep seperating until the gears strip. Install ball bearings everywhere, with new ring and pinion gears. That should fix your problem. I've never stripped a ring and pinion in my TLT, and I crawl ALOT.

Our local vendor (freetimehobbies.com) should be receiving the R&P order today, so I'll rip apart these other TLT axles and swap bushing for bearings. Thanks for the advise, but I still think a machined spooled ring gear would be cool to have.

the shim needs to go between the head of the pinoin gear and the pinion bearing....that will keep it pushed towards the ring gear.

i think that would be cool, but what i think they should make is a R&P set with a lower ratio.

I've only ever stripped 1 pinion. That's a LOT of TLT axles run. Shims should help!

I put a shim on the pinion already, but now I'm thinking I'm gonna try puting a shim on the axle shaft to push the ring gear over more as well. There seemed to be a bit of sideways slop for the ring gear as well, so hopefully eliminating that will help in the mean time also. I got the bearings in there, and it helped, but didn't totally cure the problem. That's probably due to the fact that the gears are already chewed up.
