Loose front axle causing "chugging"

Hey fellas,

I have don't pretty well with my 2012 Jeep Rubicon RTR since I got it. I came over to the crawling scene from racing SCTs and Buggies so it was quite a change. But now I'm having this problem that has me kinda puzzled: my front axle seems to be loose and is causing the truck to have trouble steering as well as it's making a "chugging" sound as it goes. I've narrowed it down to the Y bracket that connects the chassis to the top of the front axle, but I have no idea what to do to fix it....

Is this a part I must replace?

If so would the aluminum upgrade kit include the piece I need??

I tried to find the answer by googling it and also checked with some folks on Facebook that are big time scale/crawler guys, but no straight answers so far. Thanks a lot for any help provided.

Check out 3Racing's Upper Link Mount, if you're looking to stay with the 3-link setup.

Or pick up Axial's 80043 parts tree and use the truss to convert to 4 link if you have room under the steering servo plate.

Don't remember the deets on that right offhand, but I'm fairly certain it only comes with the aluminum tubing and maybe if you're lucky, a small Y connector to stay 3 link. But it doesn't really fix your slop problem until you replace either the ball or the socket bolted to your axle. IIRC, neither is included with the AL kit.

it is wear in the piece that is on the axle, that the link attaches to. last night i was looking at this same issue. the cure was a washer on each side of of the bracket and a small rubber oring on each side. as far as the chugging i would look inside the axle at the ring and pinion gears for proper mesh. mine had loosened up and required shimming to correct.

4 link that thing front and rear. The cheapest way is the Truss list above. The truck will be more stable. Use Traxxas part# 1942 for the link ends. Good luck

I saw a youtube vid showing the axle chugging/jerking and the fix was to correct driveshaft alignment, not only the the marks on the shafts but also the pins in the ujoint/cv end.

Well I was feeling all warm and fuzzy inside until you just said that.....
Cuz I just finished putting MIP Hardened Steel driveshafts on my rig. Could I have caused this problem myself?? Now I'm afraid I caused it. Dang it!

My Honcho was doing this. There is a ball socket similar to what goes on the link ends, shock ends, etc. Mine had pulled through the axle truss. Tore it all down and put it back to find that it was still loose. Find one of those ball sockets in your spare parts bag. You should have one that just barely fits. When you go to screw the y link to the truss it should pull the socket into the truss housing. Dont over tighten the screw or it will make the suspension extremely tight and not allow it to travel
