| maxstone or everest to scx10 conversion
hey everyone im geting back into the scene after selling my rs-10 and r1 last year, i was interested in the scx10 but dont want to shell out 300$ at the moment. so i saw an article that explained how to convert the ax10 to an scx chassis and was wondering if i could do it with either the everest or the maxstone? that would be great since i really want a scaler but also want the capabilities of the ax style crawler, i figure i could convert back and forth when the mood strikes me, or even start collecting parts slowly to eventually have two trucks. so will it work?

I think to get everything to do it would be more then just buying the scx10. The ax10 and ones you listed are not even close to the same as a scx10. Sure you could use some parts but not many.

Maxstone 10 will do it with little modding. Grand total I spent on new Maxstone and parts and tires was around $250. You can get some of the SCX10 Kits for about that online. But wanting to go between the 2 different types I totally understand that but once you get it dialed in as a scaler you are prolly not going to want to rip it apart to make it into a comp crawler. I would just look for a used AX10 on the side but either do the Maxstone10 or Axial Kit for scaler. The Axial route after electronics even on the cheap side is going to cost you about $100 more then the Maxstone conversion route, but that's totally up to you. I ended up getting a different motor and ESC since the stock esc died as it is prone to do from Exceed. The motor is still a great crawler motor at 70turns lol it just doesn't have much speed and I had it geared 20/87 on 2s lipo since that's the max it can handle. Either way keep us posted |

Don't get the stock plastic links they bend WAY to easily. Aluminum or solid delrin links are best. Hardware is a hard one to answer. You are going to need more screws and nuts on hand just to be safe and possibly some spacers. Start piecing it together and you will realize what you are missing. Also do you have some 90mm-110mm shocks or are you going to use stock Everest shocks ?

i was going to get new shocks and i wasnt sure of the length, but i was pretty sure they would need to be shorter. so 90-110mm is what im looking for? ill be able to figure it out once the truck is in front of me.

90mm is stock or close to it. 110mm is possibly to tall but some people use them. Depends a lot on your tire size and how much clearance you want. Keep us posted though ok |

will do, the truck should be here tomorrow, im going to run it stock for a day or two just to get it out of my system then the scx10 chassis should be here so i can start really planning. i also ordered an scx tranny so i wont have any issues bolting it up.

so i have sitting on my lap an x-trail chassis that sat on a shelf for a while and was never used, so i now have this plus the scx chassis. soshould i just use the x-trail chassis for now and build a scx from the ground up over the winter? or should i use the scx chassis and use the xtrail for my girlfriends e10 that she just ordered? ill probanby use the scx tranny i ordered either way. so bottom line pros and cons of each chassis?

SCX Chassis is going to have more product support, the X-Trail is a completely do what you want type chassis . I have the X-trail on my Maxstone. I love it ! It did take some learning though to get used to what I was going to need and realize that you will need spacers lol. I think others have said that the X-trail chassis has more chassis twist to it ? But all I did was add more support braces. |

im going to go with the scx chassis anyway, its a c-channel design so it looks better imo. ill probably use the xtrail at some point and i only paid 20$ for the whole unit, hardware and all. anyway i just got back from running the e10 for the first time. |

Nice area ! Totally understand about the chassis. Also totally forgot, does the everest have metal diff gears ? The Maxstone comes with plastick axle housings that strip pretty easy. I was able to get some Pandolin ones for it that are aluminum and they are awesome. My other friend did the Axial steel locker conversion with some grinding both work, mine has less wheel slop. But make sure those are good to go.

I did the E10/xtrail conversion about 6 months ago using the Redcat tranny and skid. Bolts right up to the chassis and so far the tranny is holding up great. Also I'm running a cheap set of Deadbolt shocks and the ride height with 1.9 tires is right on.

so i might be using less of the e10 than i thought, i was thinking of using aftermarket metal axles and stumbled across the d44 axles on rc4wd, what are your opinions on this axle? also i dont see an option for a complete axle, so do i just order two diff cases and then the front and rear tubes plus steering knuckles and use the innards to an axial axle? or is ther a place to order a complete set? any other axles i should be looking at? im looking to go a bit narrower for a more scale look.

Should be fun with the Yota axles under the SCX chassis. Cute kitty too! |

I converted my HSP Pangolin (basically the same as the e10) into an SCX10 ages ago. Fitted axial lockers. Well worth it.
