| Rainy Day Crawling (Pics!)
Here in Cali, it only rains a couple times a year. And when it rains, it pours, but that didn't stop us. We grabbed some grocery bags to cover the radios and set out for some crawlin. Brian brought a TLT (yota), Justin brought a Axial (losi), David brought a WK (twarg), and I brought my WK (chevy). First we went to the flat irons under the bridge at San Fransiquito. On top of having little traction to begin with, mud and water became a factor as well. After my rig killed a towerpro 995MG servo, Justin's rig broke a shaft plus a servo horn, and Brian got bored, we headed back to base for some repairs and then went off to Vasquez. Going up to the hole, Going into the hole, Going through the hole, Out of the hole... David broke a knuckle...time for straight axles! |

Yeah, these pics are great! It must have been an awesome day! Quick q... It looks like you put them through a lot of different terrain types. I think those are rock claws on the axial, am I right? Which tyres worked best as all rounders on the different surfaces, the losis or the mashers? Thanks! |

Looks to me like the mashers are the tire of choice for those Cali guys. Looks like some awesome crawling. A little rain never hurt no one. |

Looks like a great time. What did you use to paint that chevy body the flat color?

That's funny we were all using the same tires!! David's Twarg had M3s on it and you could tell only in a couple spots at Vasquez. We have all given up on Moabs and Rock Lizards there as they just don't grip the rock well. The Losi tires worked decently at the bridge but they got packed with wet sand and wouldn't clean out for anything. I actually wouldn't mind trying them when my Mashers wear out, whenever that will be. Ha!

On all the different terrain, the Claws with kreepy red foam didn't seem to have any advantage over the M2K's with starred foam, especially after they got pack because they didn't clean out. I will agree with Brian that moabs and lizards are pretty much worthless on the terrain we run. The chevy was painted on the inside with Pactra indy silver to simulate bare metal, gave it a light coating of indy silver on the outside as a primer, and then a couple coats for model masters modern desert sand on the outside, so it has a cool flat look and scratches similar to a full size rig. Figure the body will scratch anyway, might as well make it look cool. |

Hey all, that's my Touareg topped WK in the pics, had a great time out there. I'd have to say my M3 Mashers were the most consistent at the first "Under the Bridge" spot we hit, as mentioned before the Losi Claws filled with muck and just slid off everything. I don't think it helped that he was also running a torsion, and hasn't had as much driving time, that place just wasn't kind to him because of those two things. Driving directions? Well, kinda hard, but do a Google search for San Francisquito Road and it should come up. We were under the first bridge, no way to miss it. If that doesn't work.....from I5, exit at Valencia Blvd., turn left at the top of the ramp if from I5-N, right if from I5-S. Turn right on The Old Road, turn right on Rye Canyon. Rye Canyon turns into Copper Hill, turn left onto San Francisquito Cyn Road. From there, keep going, it's on the right side after the road gets twisty and turns into Angeles Nt'l Forest. FYI, as far as I know, there are no trespassing problems by going to this spot, and some DWP guys that were taking pics of the bridge thought it was pretty cool what we were doing. However, if you are kindly asked to leave, not my fault. ;) |
