Default Got about $300 to blow...

Okay so I've got quite a few crawlers at this point...

Really trying to make a decision on the next one I purchase I usually like to go used but I am open to the idea of a kit

I have a fairly modded Axial AX10 Scorpion... Four-link, mild rear stretch, mirrored transmission, hobby wing 1080 and hot bodies rover white label tires and about six ounces of weight in each tire

I also have a Redcat Everest 10 with proline Mashers and and four-wheel steering as well as about four or five ounces of weight in each wheel

Then I have an axial rate 1.9 with proline hyrax knockoffs... And heavy Chinese metal beadlocks as well as some homemade metal links

I did have a gen 7 pro and I was impressed with the tires... but I was not impressed with the overall weight it was especially heavy up top

This of course brings me to my what should I get thread...

1.) Remo hobby 1093-ST and then maybe swap in some red cat portal axles?

2.) Redcat gen7 or gen7 pro and swap in some portal axles

3.) An axial honcho I have found them used for about $250 locally

4.) Some kind of used SCX10ii typically can be had for under $300

5.) A red cat gen 8? I know a guy who's got one locally for $250?

6.). Something else?

My vote is for a Capra. RTR or kit if you are good at building. Apparently the directions aren't the best. IDK if you have one or not.

I'm not going to vote, but I will tell you what I know.

So if you like the 1.9 wraith the scx10.2 will be similar.

If you want portals consider a trx4 sport which is $339 rtr or $279 kit, I have a trx4 and it is probably the most reliable rig, I own and is very capable.

I see 50/50 on the red cat portals but the price is hard to beat, but I can't say first hand whether they are decent or not.

You might also consider the element enduro, the kit is $239 and the the trail walker rtr is $299 at amain hobbies, after a while you could swap to the ifs which changes all of the characteristics of the rig.

The ssd trailking kit is on sale for $319 right now, really scale should be a fun to build and run.

The capra kit is $329 and is a good rig, very capable, but the axles can be kind of fragile if you run it like a wild man. I haven't had any issues with my capra, but mine is brushed and most of the issues seem to be in rigs with brushless systems.

Don't limit yourself on price. It's just money and can always make more
Axial UMG for $380 RPP with 15% discount
Kyosho Fo-xx $489 DollarHObbyz
Kyosho Rampage Pro $229 Amain
Boom Racing BRXo1 Asia Tees
Carisma SCA-1E Subaru Brat A steal $270. Nice strong basic chassis that just works well and just won't break.

These are just fun rigs and don't see many of them around.

I’d get a TRX4 Sport Kit. I have the Bronco, and I wisH I would’ve got the kit. All I’ve done is a RC4WD 45t motor, and a Savox steering servo. It’s been great, even on super Swampers 2.2s.

The only experience I have out of the options you listed is the scx10.2.

Pros:
Kit option
Massive aftermarket
Good geometry/capability
Good base to build from

Cons:
Horrible weak plastics
Plastic everything on lesser models (deadbolt/honcho - links, Pivot balls, shock bodies, trans gears, servo gears)
Dog bone axles (again on lesser models)
Terrible shocks
Horrible plastic
Thin body material

I can absolutely recommend any variation of trx4, but specifically the sport at $339

Pros:
Kit options
Metal throughout (servo gears, trans gears, axle gears, links, pivot balls)
Sweet shocks - aluminum bodied
Strong durable plastics
Thick walled body
Good electronics for rtr imo
Good tires stock

Cons:
Less versatile base for crazy custom builds
Can get bulky with Traxxas bodies, accessories, inner fenders etc
Higher cog due to portals
Possibly less scale due to portals
Less efficient with additional drag in drivetrain

I don’t have experience yet, but my next truck will be an element enduro.

Pros:
Kit option
Lower end of price range
Aluminum shocks
Universal axles
O/d to front axle stock
Hard plastic upgrade options

Cons:
Less aftermarket support?
Plastic pivot balls
Less scale axles
Higher ride height/driveline angle?

Idk just my thoughts.

Id vote for Capra. I have a TRX4 which i am always fighting with bumper clearance. i got the Capra and now i have a whole new set of challenges (mostly tires dropping into holes). Im finding that trucks and buggies are totally different.

I vote you skip the 10.2 and pickup as SSD Trail King. I too have a ton of toy trucks and the Trail King stands out in quality, precision, super sharp steering, and needing no upgrades to seriously perform.

Otherwise I vote Capra. I guess it depends if you want a super capable scale truck, or an even more capable tube buggy thing.

For the price nothing beats the Carisma SCA-1e. More popular in the UK, but it can't be overlooked. Under $300 and no real faults or upgrades needed to beat on it for a season. Even the servo has been proved reliable.

I'd grab the Carisma Range Rover if I had play money. Looks to be pretty capable and about as real looking as you can get.

I will agree on most, BUT:

The portals do create a higher center of gravity BUT BUT the transmission and motor sit in line and lower than many other RCs including the SCX 10ii. The TRX engine and trans sit in the frame rails. Many others have the motor and trans next to each other and sit on the frame rail. I think that more than compensates for the protals In static testing and what I have experience there is little difference between my SCXii (even in a corrupt carbon LCG chassis) and my TRX4 in a stock chassis, if I rember ceorrectly both do better than 55% in my testing. The TRX4 side hills better than my old school SCX 10 and far better than my Enduro.

As far as bodies, TRX4 bodies are heavy and bulky. ALL are ugly except the decent looking one is the K5 BUT if you are building a crawler you are changing the body any way. Chances are good it will be a creeper.

As far as crazy build the TRX4 seems to have as many options as the Axial, both have lots. As far as options and Enduro, not as much.

The Axial ii is more fragile, esp the on piece axials but they can turn tight and that RC is light. Depending on your driving style and build that may be advantageous.

$299 SCX10II 1969 Blazer RTR.
Comes with leds, steel links and gears, driver, interior, three channel radio.
I had a TRX-4 Sport, I sold it and bought another SCX10 II.
