Default TXT or Clod for a starting crawler

Hello everyone,
i have a friend that is just getting into crawling and he doesn't know what to base his crawler as. Should it be a clod or txt?
He REALLY likes the look of the Roktapus but i'm not sure if that would be the best type of crawler for him. he is looking also for a fairly cheap crawler.Typically are clods more expensive? Would a txt be better for him?after all it is a stock crawler (just not a very good one) and it also comes with electronics (ESC, reciever, servo's). All input is appreciated!

txt.. all you gotta do is cut the bottom off the chassis, make a skid plate, mount the tranny a little higher, and you have a crawler...

TXT's are a little more pricey initially, but they are more capable than a Clod out of the box. All you need to do is JB Weld the diffs and your crawling with a TXT. The stock Clod chassis is pretty much useless as far as crawling goes. The TXT, new, doesn't come with electronics, it only comes with a mechanical speed control.

The cheapest route he could take is buying a pair of Clod axles and making his own chassis, links, servo mounts etc.

Actually there's a bit more to be done than that.

But on the TXT a lot can be done for free and he can learn more as he goes. With a Clod he'd have to buy a whole new chassis or find a roller that has one. You could pick up a roller or RTR in the classifieds here; otherwise if he wants to build it himself I'd have him get a TXT.

Check out the 'Top Ten' list for the TXT on the main page and also the 'How to make a Clod crawler' sticky in the Clod section.

/edit/ I need to type faster... :-P

Ditto.

How many times do we have to be put through this This should be in the n00b section..... if it had to be posted at all. By why post this question when it has only been asked/talked about 1-2 times per week in the n00b section...
