| Rollback Tow Truck
Okay, it's not a crawler, but when the crawlers break, something's got to haul them away, right? This thing is 1/12 scale, uses the front half of a CC-01 chassis and the rear axle from that kit, Jugg leaf springs, a lot of aluminum channel, a King Blackfoot body, big rig duallies, the top from a computer case and about 16 inches of 1/4-20 threaded rod to drive the rollback mechanism. It's a LONG way from done, so don't judge it too harshly. I know the rollback needs to be mounted to the frame better than it is, as well as some other sins that need absolution before this one gets the done stamp. But I got the rollback mechanism working last night, and I was so stoked, I just had to share. For now I have to rotate the shaft by hand, but if I can find the old motor from my Mini-T I should have it motorized by the time I have to go to work today. |

I like it. I was thinking of doing something like that, I'm glad someone else did it first. Good job. I have some small motors if you need one. Jason |

Ben, she's in Florida for the week for a romance writers' convention, or I'd never have the time I need to get this far This week I'm camping out in the basement. As soon as I get home from work, I fire up the Dremel and get to work. I do sometimes forget to eat, sleep and shower, though. |

Thats nuts! Are you going to be using some switches to cut the rollback motor when the bed reaches its limits?

Good to have you back, Randy The cab is just a King Blackfoot body, nothing too special, but I'll snap a couple pics for ya later tonight when I get home from work. Switches on the end points would keep it from going back the other way, so I'll just keep an eye on it and shut it off when it gets to the end. Have to have an ESC on there, as it's pretty fast on 6 cells about 3 seconds from full forward to all the way up. I really need a video camera for this thing, it's so fawkin' cool to see it work. |

Like I said, the cab's nothing special. I need to come up with a clever name for the towing company (NOT something weak like The Happy Hooker) but it suits the mission. Still needs some mirrors and emergency lights. Underneath you can see the stretch. Hard to believe this thing used to be a Touareg, huh? And the business end of the bed slider. If you use your imagination you can make out how it works. I know I had to use a hell of a lot of it to make it happen. |

Have you thought of modding a old servo board to use as youre speed controle. It might slow it down some. Plus it you were to remove the pot from the board Im sure you could wire something up to manually stop it when it reaches the end point on travel. |
