Sticky Shocks
 

I searched but didn't find much. What are some mods that can be done to RC4wd 110mm dual rate shocks to make them a bit smoother? Thanks for the help.

I never cracked mine open to put any oil in, and they work fine for me (not too springy or to hard) - their on a SCX-10 w/ 2 wraps of lead on RC4WD steelies and 2Face Tires front and 1 wrap in the back.

i have one set thats great with my 2.2 roxlox, and then i have a set that is sticky.. i used tlt springs as the upper springs to soften them up and they work great once the suspension has been cycled! take a look at my 2.2 leroys yota wreckloose to see what im talking about"thumbsup"

My RC4WD 110mm shocks seem to stick as well.

I tried 30wt shock oil only filled about halfway and they still seem to stick.

Definitely not the smoothest shocks.

Hopefully RC4WD will see this thread and chime in.

I got 4pcs of scale shock that came with the T-finder kit, 4pcs 80mm dual springs and 2pcs ultimate scale shock, all are sticky on the initial play. What I do is I manually compress and decompress the shock and after a few cycles it starts to loosen up. However have it rested for a minute or so and its becomes sticky again. I end up removing one of the white O-rings and it works better since then no more sticking anytime all the time. Hope they can find a better O-rings for their shocks. Im using the axail 30wt oil btw.

Removing one of the o-rings doesn't make the shock leak? I think it would, but I am obviously no expert. I guess it wouldn't be a big deal if you just kept a couple drops in the reservoir for lubrication. I had heard that is one way of making them less sticky. Thanks for the opinions.

replace your o rings.
go to local hardware store,find a assortment of plumbers orings.

*(clean all of old oil out before you do the replacement)*

put the ones on that fit the opening of the shockbody.
a drop or 3 of silicone shock oil to lube it up,i would suggest 30wt oil.
they will stick,just not as bad,once they break loose,theyll
be alot smoother too.

the ones rc4wd puts in are fine,until the oil hits em
makes'em swell up.

something i learned playin tourney paintball for 8yrs.

Easy three step process:

1) clean out the nasty oil and take out the clear o-rings
2) install Losi orange o-rings
3) add just a drop or two of standard silicone shock oil

That's exactly the thread I just went looking for! These aren't that bad for shocks...after fixing mine, they are still leak free and smooth and I run them full of shock oil.

i was looking for a thread like this for ever! i gave up last week and ordered some axial resivor shocks (off ebay for $20bucks) got them today tossed them on! guess now i can pull the rc4wd coil overs apart and fixem up and save them for a more scale build!

I can attest, I used the Associated shock rebuild kit. I took the red o-rings, stuffed them in my RC4WD scale shocks along with some 20wt oil and they are smooth as silk when worked by hand. Still don't have a driving rig to test them on but they feel 100% better already. Thanks for everyone's help.
