They are so easy to make, I can't imagine not making your own. They pretty much need to be made to your specific tire size to work properly anyway.

Because tire size varies. its kinda not something that is normally sold. Its really easy to make them yourself. Go to any of them jewelry shops in the mall, Michaels, wall-mart, ect and you can purchase necklace chain for cheap. several threads on how to do it here. http://www.hobbytalk.com/bbs1/showthread.php?t=127315 http://www.misbehavin-rc.com/pit-lan...s/g-chains.asp |

Finally got around to trying it today. Was going to use chain from home depot or lowes but tried the stuff form michaels. A roll was about 12 yards for $7 Looks the right size but very soft so as long as not too much wheel speed they should hold up ?? Didn't like the second picture so added some in between, because they kind of sit in the grooves so hardly any chain exposed, then will need some bungees BTW if I can do it anyone can! |

correct if wrong, but shouldn't they be on the outside of the treads? to act more as a tread themselves.

| Yeah but the groves are too big for this size chain, they just fall in. I'll try and adjust it. And also the offset of the grooves on the flat irons. If I go with a larger size chain it probably wouldn't look too scale. I'm going to try and double up the chain on the 2.2 to see how it looks. Again, my first attempt at this Last edited by fvrr; 11-16-2010 at 11:41 AM. |

I finally got around to building some for my Honcho. I never realized it, but I used the same chain as fvrr. How does this light chain stand up? I've never used it for this before. Pic: |

older thread but i whipped up some chains too.. i used #16 jack chain. here's my how to thread on making them, pretty easy to makeHOW-TO: make tire chains. they work awesome and dig in well on ice and snow. here's a couple pics of what they look like on the honcho. i will be adding some small 2 inch chunks of bungee cords to keep them tight. |

I got chain from homedepot and it works great. I used hair ruberbands(the little tiny ones) for chain tightners and the are working great. I will get some pics today and post them. I didnt think that the chains would really help much and was very surprized. They were well worth the time to make them.

| got my #16 jack chain at canadian tire but most hardware stores (home depot, lowes, home hardware etc) have a selection of chain, should be with rolls of rope and stuff. took me about 11-12ft of chain to make 4 and i'd have to buy another foot or 2 to make a 5th one for the spare tire. i wasnt in a hurry so it took me probably 5-6 hours to make them.
