Default How can I get more flex out of my Leaf Spring Front end?

I made the drop shackles to help, but as you can see they aren't really doing anything.

Does anyone have any ideas on what I can do?

you need to "chino mod" the leaf springs

single shackles will be fine once you do

Are your shackles tightened too much? They (leafs) need to wiggle a little bit inside the shackle since there is no rubber bushing in the eye like in a 1:1

The shackles you made would only work on the drop out letting the axle hang down farther. Not on the compression. Lift one of the rear tires and get some weight on the front end and it should show.

All that flex is in the rear which is linked and no shocks by the looks of it.

The leaf springs have no way of compressing. The shackle is already bottomed out against the frame because the springs are to long.

it also looks like the angle of the shackles are wrong, they should face the other way. That way when the leaf flexes it doesn't fight the shackle. Either that or you need longer leafs.

Like previously suggested "chino mod" and run a single shackle.

used the search for you leaf springs- how to help them flex.

the chino mod is tapering the leaf eyelet, at the top were the screw goes thru, take a dremel with a cut off wheel or grinding wheel, take about a 1/16 inch off each side, the front and rear of each leaf, or get the rc4wd red ultra soft leafs, that works well too

Could try making a scaleish version of the revolver shackle.

http://www.rockcrawler.com/techrepor...lvers_samurai/

Shouldn't be terribly difficult. Mix up what you have maybe with some shock parts from a Losi Micro Crawler and you could get a fairly good scale representation that would work good.

Just an idea.

The shackles need to swing back in the rest posisition. you have them leaning forward towards the front of the truck so when the leaf try's to compress its just forcing the weight upward into the shackle instead of swinging away.

If you took out the shooter style mod and just ran the one shackle you would get alot more flex and the leaf would work how it is suppsed to

Just assuming your using stock highlift leaf springs, they are very stiff, you may wanna swap them out for rc4wd replacements which are 25% softer. Second, your shackles are wrong, I don't think you should use shooter style shackle upfront I believe those are just for the rear. And last, like mentioned already chino nodding is critical, that helps out a huge amount. And also when you have your truck at full weight( with body on, all electronics, accesories and all that) your springs will work better also, weight helps a leaf spring suspension move alot better from my experience

now I may not be 100% correct on all this, it is just what I find works for me. Good luck

Like everyone else said the shackle is hitting the frame, because of where your mounting brakects are and the leaf being to long. You can take off the drop shackle and put a solid straight shackle on and you should see an improvement.

This is how my Chevy done,
The fronts, Flattened out slightly (still have some arch to them), chino mod, only running the main leaf, leafs are held onto the axle with only one center screw(allows them to bend more in the middle). Screws fit loosely in leaf eyelets and shackles, (this helps with flex but kind of makes for sloppy steering), The axles have a some side to side movement because of this. The shocks are for looks only (no oil or springs in them).
