| gearing vs lathe?
well, here is my dilema and question. first, i have installed a 'pede trans and a 55 turn lathe in my fj45 project and am running a 48 pitch 96t spur gear with a 12t pinion, to bruiser axles. the ratio is not ideal but i can't seem to find a better ratio. what i need is either a larger spur or a smaller pinion which i cant seem to find. i would like to get up around 48:1 but i am stuck around 43.5:1. i have considered going to 64p setup but the best i can do is 125t spur and 16t pinion. so the question is this: will running a 65 turn lathe make up for my insuficient gearing? has anyone tried this in a similar application? i just don't want to spend another $20.00 on this thing yet. the other option is finding an 11t 48p pinion. any idea where to get a couple of these? your assistance is greatly appreciated. chino |

It'll slow it down and torque it up a bit, so to speak. You could also consider throwing in an extra cell or two with that 65t, to give it a little extra juice.

Chino, I have one 10tooth 48 pitch pinion gear. They are super rare and were made by Radical Midwest Chassis Designs (actually he convinced Robinson Racing to make a small batch for him) I have one in my bronco tlt with a 55 turn and its pretty sweet set up like that. If you want this one, send me a PM, I dont think I will really use it. Mike | |

Dean, at the Bean hollow comp Art showed up with his clod running 8t pinions and 65t lathes. I would have to say the wheelspeed is only 75% of what the 55t lathe is. And it had plenty of torque to get through a lot of obstacles. It was pretty darn slow. Not sure if that helps but that is all I know about the 65t.

No 11 T 48 pitch there. I dunno if they didn't have them or they don't sell them. I have to go back up there in a few days and I'll ask about it and look for 32's too. If not, I would add another cell and go to a 65. That's my plan for the new TLT I just got. |
