Default Let's talk winch anchors!

So I want to know. What the best winch anchor that actually functions like the real deal? I have 2 but neither one works like it should.

The first was one of those folding boom racing things with the two legs. It's fairly disappointing. I've had to replace the hardware do to it breaking a few times. It worked fine at grappling onto rock ledges but that's about it.

The second is an rc4wd, pull pall replica. So I was pretty excited about this one and I could even deal with its large size if it worked. Sadly though it does not dig itself into loose sand or dirt like the full scale version it's modeled off of does.

So is there any anchor that will actually dig into loose ground and keep digging untill its deep enough to actually recover a stuck rig, or am I just dreaming?

Hmm so I must be the only one that actually uses winch anchors. Interesting.

nope, you aren't dreaming, I went thru the same thing and ended up making my own out of 16ga steel and 3/16 rod. I made 3 different versions to see what worked best for my terrain, the green one is kind of a standard size, the orange one has a different shaped shovel and a shorter handle, and the blue one is a extra long shovel with a short handle...its all mig welded

all of them have a large hole drilled in the end of the handle to accept a large size hook, I tried all 3 hooks I had and the fattest one was the warn winch hook. I used that hook as my benchmark.. the handle end was heated and hammered to flatten and widen the hook hole area..so far they are working great!

Good to know. I guess I'll have to start making my own then. Time to add one more thing to the project board. Lol
