Thumbs up My Wheely King Build

Hi, I am new to this site and figured I would post my Wheely King Project, I built the chassis, shock mounts, and servo mount myself using a jigsaw and a few other tools. Here are the specs:

Chassis: Custom made from .062 Aluminum sheet
Tires and Wheels: Integy ERC tires on Type II aluminum beadlocks
Motor: Trinity Monster Pro 27T w/ no solder leads
Esc: Lrp AI Auto Pro Reverse
Tranny: HPI Gear Reduction, Integy alloy gearbox and cover, 86T spur, 21T pinion
Driveshafts: Traxxas Revo shortened
Axles: Hpi Nitro Rs4 Hardened steel ring and pinion gears, Integy +15mm Axles
Suspension links: HPI King Crawler Conversion
Steering: Custom axle mount, Futaba 25mm servo arm, Associated titanium drag link, Dubro 3mm Monster ball links, Integy Steering Links
Shocks: Integy Msr10

I still have alot of plans for it and the next step is to lower it an inch and relocate the shocks for more flex. Let me know what you think.....

Looks= very nice, clean, kinda showish.
Likes= servo mount, shocks.

I like the rig. Not sure what you are going for, but it is WAY to high for my liking. But would make 1 he'll of a basher. Great work!

Nice rig too high for me too no offense. I am going to get those shocks can you tell me whether you used the 1,2,or 3 hole pistons front and rear and how you like it so far? Any thoughts of going to a stiffer internal spring? any want to change the piston hole number front or rear?

Sorry for all the questions its just rare to see someone use these and I wanted to get some first hand advice on them!

Thanks guys, I am going to lower it sometime this week. I wasnt sure how high it would be when I was finished.

I finally got it done a couple days ago and havent tried it on the rocks yet.(might be just a little tippy.....)

illz302- I used 2 hole pistons with soft springs and 120w shock oil. The springs that come installed are too stiff for a WK and wont compress completely when the truck is flexing. The only problem I have with them is the aluminum rod ends which dont have as much flex as plastic ones, I had to make custom mounts so they wouldnt bind. Should work fine on a stock WK though.

Looks different for sure, nice and clean for a jig saw job, must have taken a lot of hand work. Like the others, I also think it's really tall for a crawler or trail runner, just MHO.

illz302-I forgot to mention that the shock oil I used is way too thick. It rebounds very slowly and I plan on trying 50wt oil when I can get some ordered. The shocks have been holding up great after 3 months of use and I am very satisfied with them.

Thanks for the nice comments, I have started lowering the WK today and it should be about 2 1/2 inches shorter when I am done. The total height will be less than 9 inches to the top of the body. It has a 13.5" WB and is 12.5" wide so it should be a nice backyard crawler when I am done.

Default Sitting very High

What kind of " Freak of Nature " is that! For some weird reason I like to look at it.

I got a little carried away when I decided to rebuild the whole truck. I almost have it done now and it sits about 3 inches lower. I also managed to double the amount of flex. I will try to get some pics by tommorrow. Thanks

Nice build! Since you've upgraded your motor and your esc a hi torque steering servo is in order. I have the Hitec 645MG and it's great! Because of the size of your rig you might need something a bit more torquey.

Show us some picks of it crawling!

Cool

Kalin96- The shocks dont show any signs of leaking, even with the shafts facing downward.
Evandiego- Thanks for the info, I locked the diffs and it has almost no steering when stopped. I am going to buy the Hitec 645MG servo as soon as I can, it seems to be perfect for a crawler.

Here are some pics after being lowered a few inches......

I still have to finish the body mounts and make a few other minor changes but it handles great so far.

Now that looks way better!!! I like it.
I have a pair of those shocks and i couldnt get them to quit leaking. Took em off and threw them in the parts tray. Then they leaked all over it!!!!!
