need help

i recently got a 2s 5000mah hexfly lipo battery and it seemed like my 55t motor took a crap on me so i installed a 27t motor and it seems to be doing the same thing motor and ESC get really got what would cause this?

Re: need help

most likely a gearing problem. check the spur and pinion and adjust as needed

Re: need help

What is your gearing? I liked 14/96 personally, as low as you can go with the stock transmission.

factory gearing

Re: need help

Did you set the gear mesh up correctly? Not having it set correctly could lead to binding which puts strain on the motor and esc leading to them overheating. There is many tutorials on here that can help you set it correctly if you dont know how to currently. Your gearing should be fine i've ran alot of different motors on stock gearing just fine.

yes the backlasg is set good did it by eye and re did it with paper loosened it a little more and little tighter same result motor gets hot as crap i ordered a axial AE-5 ESC and 20T axial motor hope this fixes it its only teo weeks old and HPI was no help they just wanted to keep sending me motors said they could just send a me a ESC so i said screw it

Re: need help

if it is set up for a 55t motor, it most likely wont like a lower turn motor without gearing down..what is the tooth count of the factory pinion and spur gears?

Are you trying to crawl? It takes a lot lower gearing to crawl than it does to bash. If I recall correctly stock gearing is something like 20/86, to crawl you really need 14/96. Hpi sells the large spur, at least they did.

Re: need help

factory is 21/90 when i put the 27t motor in there it was perfect for a little speed and crawled way better IMO

Re: need help

keep an eye on the temps, 4.2:1 is a bit tall for crawling, it would be better to get the ratio between 5:1 and 6:1 for much longer motor life. 3s would also make more speed out of the ratio you choose..but your ESC may not be rated for 3s...

got my ae5 on today and 20t motor and well its too fast now lol what gear ratio should i do

Re: need help

96/14 is as low as you can go.

Re: need help

im worried the 21/90 ratio the motor will start getting hot i ran it wide open for like 2-3up and down the drive way it seemed fine but i wont for sure know this tomorrow i have a 19 pinion laying around somewhere

Re: need help

I would have went with a higher turn motor..a 40t would have been and excellent choice...you need to get the ratio in the 5:1-6:1 area....until you do, its gonna overheat the lower turn motors like the 27t
