Default Servo/battery mount

In an attempt to lower my battery a little more, I decided to try a servo/battery mount based on the servo plans found on this site. I simply extended the mount and then bent it back to follow, loosely, the angle of the top stays. I am still testing for chassis rub and will adjust as required. Two cable ties holds the battery very firmly in place.

Here is what I came up with (hope these links work):

Comments/suggestions?

Great Idea! Been trying to figure out a way to put a stick pack on my front axle also, think I might have it figured out finally...now I just need to get out to the garage and make it happen..

No Links? Looks good though, wonder if there is any rub with the links on.

I see upper links??? Maybe I am just understanding what you are trying to say. That is a great idea been trying to design something like that but this one looks great.

I also see the upper links if that's what your referring to...I guess if it does hit the uppers then you could just make the bend a little less and have the tray angled down towards the front...I know my uppers don't really go that high from a stand still but it's possible that my setup sucks..

Yes, there are upper links there - they are just hard to see in the pictures because the mount runs pretty parralel with them and sort of hides them. The mounted battery does not hit the stays but - depending on how far back you push the battery, may contact the chassis. If this is the case, I will simply remove that part of the chassis and re-brace if necessary.

The mount is made of 1/8 aluminum and I just put it in the vice and slowly bent it to the right shape. I was amazed at how much you can bend the aluminum and there is no sign whatsoever of fatigue.

Mwrightt: I like the idea of mounting the battery parralel along the top of the axle (keeps ALL the battery weight forward), but I don't think thats doable with the stock chassis - which is unfortunately all I have right now. I beleive there would be a lot of battery-to-chassis contact with the stock chassis - unless a lot of hacking was done. Is this true?

Cheers,

Sean

good way to go w/ that. just proves there's more than one way to mount a servo!!

Looks like the servo is still mounted the same way.

Nice mod to the template Sean, pretty easy for anyone who wants to run a stick pack. I am sure you will be happy with the performance increase.

I sure like seeing that template being used too!

I think this best mount I seen, 2 things I would do

1. drill two holes where the battery goes to lighten it up.

2. get some velcro or a velcro strap for the battery.

Default Servo/battery mount - the second iteration

I liked the idea of mwrightt and embarked on a new project last night. Now I have decide which one I like better.

The new mount, is again based upon the servo mount pdf posted above but with a few small mods. It was actually pretty easy to make and I only used a drill press, hacksaw, dremel with cutoff wheel and a file. I ill need to trim the underside of the "nose" of the chassis for better clearance and the outside knobs on the stock tires JUST graze the battery on full turns. They may be trimmed or I can just live with them until I fond a way to get around this.

Also, I went to Princess Auto (for those Canucks out there) and bought a 2.99 Cable Tie Gun. Man, but can this little sucker clamps the battery tight!!!! Makes changes a joke!!

Here's what I came up with:

Post up the new pics in the servo mount sticky. It is a very nice execution and since they come stock with a stick pack people should see this option.

nice job man!
I think you will like it with all the weight up there

I'm running the stock tires and they are quite wide - plus the lugs on the side stand out quite a bit from the casing. I think I will grind them down a bit to better clear the battery.

Took a quick run on the rocks yesterday and, yup, this battery position does make a big difference.
