| steering servo questions
After locking the axles and removing the rear anti-sway grid, my wk is much harder to turn and the servo is struggling. Will moving it to the axle help some or not? I would think that by doing away with the linkage it might help. I do plan on replacing with a higher torque servo later, but cannot afford to throw the works at this 1 project all at 1 time, I have other projects that get money first. I was thinking of moving the battery to over the steering axle, but it has enough trouble turning as it is, cant re distribute the weight until a better servo is mounted. |

If you use Harleys over the axle servo mount template that is stickied at the top of the page, you can get away with using the stock servo for a little while. I did this but found the servo progressively loses power the longer you use it. Add to this any weight in the tires plus the weight of an aftermarket chassis and running gear and you will find it's a losing battle.

Just out of curiousity, is it harder to turn while the truck is moving as well? You realize that when you lock your differentials, it does have a negative impact on your truning - makes it slower due to the fact that all four wheels are locked and turning at the same speed. The stock servo is weak enough as it is but coupling it with the extra linkages required to mount it on the chassis and you have even more sapping of power from the steering system. Even moving the stock servo to the axle will have some benefit. I doubt this is an issue, but have you been fooling with the knob on your stock TX that changes your steering sensitivity? This caught me off guard a few times when I first got the truck. My steering was really slow to repsond and the wheels wouldn't turn all the way. Turns out I had the steering sensitivity turned way down (in dummy mode). Sean |
