Default Twin Trany II. Outside the box.(Finished, kinda.)

My first attemp at a Twin trany variation is going to becom a transfer case for a upcoming project. My new version is so easy any one could do it. My first thought was low CG. Get the motor below the trany and compact the package. Turn it sideways. Well here it is. Still in mock up stage though.

Shows another way the Twin tranny can be manipulated to fit anywhere. Probably need to run a skid so the chain won't loosen up. That's if the chassis flexes any. Once shock mounts and other components are added,it may not be an issue though.

I like it.

Oh a skid for sure. I still have to cut open the input shaft side for bigger spurs and make a motor mt that I can use just about any gear ratio possible. I am having an issue now of where to put my 6 sub C's. Would an 8 cell AA pack have the poop to power this thing? Thanks for the comments.

I've not had any luck at all with AA's for a main pack. Some guys have but they are running teeny little 2.2's that weigh less than a piss ant

The next cell I'd like to try is a 4/5a from CBP's. They'd have a bit more punch than a 2/3a and a good deal more than a AA but smaller than a sub C. Maybe that'll help you out.

Kinda laid out. 72T spur, man that thing is big. Had to ventilate the chassis plate. Shoot and I was in Wally World today and forgot to pick up a cutting board for belly pan.

Thinking arrow shafts for links this time and some hopfully trick axle mounts. Still have some frame extensions to make for shock mounts and drill lots of holes for adjustability.

Oh that isn't the gearing I'm gonna use. It's just the smallest spur and pinion I had. This should be adjustable for any ratio.

Unless you get a spur thats to big

It's still an AWESOME way to mount eveything. Could throw a GD600 in there to shift the motor away from the driveshaft. Then run a small spur and big pinion to get your wheelspeed back up where it needs to be

I don't foresee needing anything bigger that 72t. I'm going brushless sometime too so won't need to anyway.

Yah I was kinda concerned about that too. I was thinking using them as sleeves over solid stock or maybe using carbons. Carbons are pretty flexible. When they brake they brake bad. Center drilling and tapping that aluminum just plain sucks. Hell this rig should be a little lighter than Corndog 1, it's under 10lbs.

Got the links installed. Scratched the arrow idea. 8-32 is so much easier to drill and tap then 6-32. Wish I had more Kyosho 6.8 ball joints. Gettin $ quote from RCP as we speak.

Looks like your running a stock 50 tooth in the picture......

.......your motors getting pretty close to the driveshaft with the little spur

Hence my comment.....

Actually it's one of my old school RC10 (the original) 48t. I will never run this gear, but I wanted to make it fit. The shaft is very close when I cycle the axle but it clears. So close that I had to file off some of my solder joint on the motor. I guess if I ran this spur and the suspension was in a bind it could hit, but this is where she will probably stay. As you no, hand fab takes a long time. It's not something you want to do more than once.

Well said. Someone want to help me lay out my GT2 conversion?

Looks real good Bart. May I suggest an additional motor support on the hood end. You may get a little flexy with monster power... Does the brushless you have in mind have the rotating can?

Oh shoot, that's what raptorman is getting at. The damn rotating can on a brushless. Well a new motor mount may be in order, but untill then I'll thrash this one. Thanks guys for the comments.

Kinda at a stand still with this project. I am out of 6.8mm ball ends. The ones that come off of the rear steer lock outs on the stock Twin's. Anyone have any? This is them next to Traxxas longs.

RCP's been so busy with the RCX that they haven't got back to me on these. Any way had CornDog 1.5 out in the rain the other day, and decided to rip the tires off and fart around with the foams . I want these tirse to have a little more bite in the center. They sag in the middle because they are pretty wide.

By the way any body know where I can get some more of this style LST? Never have seen it anywhere. I've been calling them LST Sports, but maybe I got lucky and got some one of a kinds . Here is what I've got. They orignal foams I cut in half and just had it in the center. I cut another foam in half and then into chunks. Then glued them on in increments and stuck them in a lil bucket to dry.

Now it's Miller time so maybe I'll get more done.

Or not .
