Weekend Warrior

I scored a cheap New Bright 1/6th scale Ford Raptor for $30 the other day.

https://i.imgur.com/2gAiccAh.jpg

I have always wanted one of these big bodies, and figured I would do a scale build. Element Ifs kit is on order, and I plan on picking up a SSD pro 44 rear axle so I have matching gear ratios. I cut some frame rails, giving myself 1/2 an inch on each end extra, so 27" long. Sitting on a 16.5" wheel base and 10.5" wide at the fenders. After tossing the body over the various axles I have I determined Scx10 axles were wide enough with 1/2" wideners and 2.2 wheels.I had a set of Axial Method 2.2" beadlocks. I stretched some 1.9 Pitbull Growlers over the 2.2" beadlocks giving me a 4.75" tall tire in the 5"wheel well openings.

https://i.imgur.com/ZQS7DVnh.jpg

Ride height will be low, I plan on building a truck that looks like a weekend warrior type.

Dude! This is awesome!

I have been looking for the New Bright 1/10ish scale 4 door body for my TRX4. Where did you get this body?

The body is a true 1/8th scale, and I found it @Walmart in the clearance section.

That body is a almost direct bolt on to the yeti you just need longer links for the rear and a piece of 1/2" L angle up front

Can't wait for the run video

Intresting! To bad the Yeti is not being made anymore...

I did throw it over my Losi Baja Rey, and the track width is to wide for what I was going for. I would have to widen the fenders a bit with wider flares and then I would have a hard body version of my Baja Rey... Not ideal imo...

Nice! I just saw one of those at Walmart to, same price. They are pretty scale bodies, good for some minor bashing. I built one using a slash 2wd.

Agreed, holes for 5mm led's in the headlights and tail lights, can probably stuff some 3mm led's in the markers. The light bar up top could take some 5mm led's as well. Only problem for me is the holes in the back of the cab are kind of large, where the have to plastic bed cage in it. And the windows are black.

My advantage is I work there, and just happened to pass by to see it...

In other news, I stripped the stickers, not vinyl, but paper stickers... peeled right off and left no residue, unlike my Bronco. I also got an axle under my trailer, I think it looks fitting...

Sweet! Looks 100x better without those crazy stickers

Is your trailer made out of some sort of thin wood? Looks like 1/4” wood.

That’s pretty much what I did, except I used 1/2” interior plywood. I wanted to use 1/4”, but realistically I’m probably going to make a new one in a month or so lol. Do you have a thread for it?

Mine is just a boring box, I now wish I would’ve added some curves to it.

I didn't want a boring box lol, and built it big enough to hold some beverages.... for the trail, you know... Insulated and all with 1/2" high density foam. It now has coil spring suspension with trailing arms...

only documentation I have of the trailer... http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/axial...s-3-0-a-2.html

Thanks Gula,

Track width is 10.5" and I used the wide hubs provided with the Axial Method Ifd's...

This is going to look so good with the IFS up front! It would look even better with a Chevy 1500 body, because you know, Chevy does IFS. But definitely still awesome! [emoji1690]

09 F150 > 09 Silverado. At least as far as 1:1 goes. I love me some Chevy trucks but the 07-13 were an abomination.

I 1000% agree, I was just saying it would be cool to see an IFS underneath a Chevy body.

No servo in place yet, I have not decided on its placement just yet. I need to adjust toe as it seems to have too much at this point, and my only other comment is on the bump steer...seems to be a bit in there.

Ifs under a Raptor is def the thing needed, also keeping the tires under the fenders...

I would think since it's ifs, I would try to mimic traxxas slash servo set up side of the frame or mounted behind IFS on floorboard...
hope that helps..

the location provided in the ifs kit is behind the assembly, right in the way of a scale drivetrain layout... I am planning on getting a scale trans in the near future and thinking about putting the servo up front.

Do you think it's possible to swap out the rod ends from the steering onto the suspension arms to widen the track width without using (wheel) spacers? Im thinking I may get one of these to try out.

I am going to try exactly that... need to find longer M4 set screws and I will space out the stock rod ends. The stock rod ends are already long.

If you need i have 25mm and 30mm M4 set screws i can send if you cant find any. So do the rod ends recess into the suspension arm, how much if so?

Thanks... Yes, all the rod ends are the same except the two servo links. They sit in pockets in the A arms, I plan to make some spacers making the rod ends flush with the ends.

Ok... I attempted to use Jato rod ends, to bring the track width out 1/2". I had to drill the arms out to 5/16" They work, but reduce travel by 1/2, both up and down and driveshafts are no longer working. I tried Vaterra twin hammers cvd's but they are also to short, need to find something 1/2" longer than Vaterra TH cvds.

I did not adjust the steering, so there is some major toe in...
Also I found a rod end twisted, thus binding, thus limiting travel...

Arms level...

L, 3 1/2" to outside bearing face.

Re: Weekend Warrior

So I gave up on waiting for a SSD complete rear axle, and ordered a Scx10II kit axle. A day later, the SSD came into stock...

Anyway I built my new axle last night without directions and bolted it onto my Raptor. Now I have matching gear ratios, instead of overdriven rear.

I also mounted up a new set of Rc4wd Mickey Thompson Baja Claws. Measuring @ 4.75" tall they fit perfectly. and fill the wheel wells like they should. I will post pics later...
