Street's t4r build(going IFS) My Aoshima 4Runner model finally came a few days ago so I immediately started work on it. So far I have an almost finished ARB front bumper, a rear bumper with quarter panel protection, and a Rotopax 2gal tank, as well as a little trimming for the tires. I'll let the pics speak for themselves: http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...3/P1020035.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...3/P1020037.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...3/P1020038.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...3/P1020039.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...3/P1020040.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...3/P1020041.jpg The Rotopax 2gal gas tank next to the micro wheel for size reference. http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...308_091821.jpg For those of you who don't know what it is: RotopaX Gas Packs- 1,2,3 and 4 Gallon Gasoline Any info on how I can make some molds of it or someone who can do it for me would be greatly appreciated. Let me know what you think so far. ..white makes the details in the styrene hard to see.. |
they sell these little army guy kits at target.... they are called bravo team and the y are 1:32 scale and there are like four different sets but they come with all kinds of stuff like gas cans, knap sacks, sleeping bags and guns and even litle scale kitty cats!!!! but seriousley, checkem out cuz they rock!!!! "thumbsup" |
I'll have to check those out. The body is 1/24 though so that stuff might be a little small. I plan on trying to make as much of the stuff myself as I can. I'm currently working on a Gobi Stealth roof rack as well. Unfortunately my order of styrene I got yesterday was missing the all important round rod I need to do the rack as well as the ARB bumper.. I'll probably stop by the LHS today and pick some up so I can get some more done since I won't be getting a response from the place I ordered my styrene from until Thursday.. This is the Gobi rack on a 3rd Gen I will be replicating: http://www.gobitoyota.com/96-4runner.htm |
i thought it would be small but is actually just about perfect......are you in chelsea mi? if so there is a train show this weekend and there is a guy who is always there with every type styrene you could ever want!!! |

Little update. LHS only had hollow tubing so I got some of that and then ran steel wire through it. Made the bending really easy and stopped almost all of the pinching from happening on the bends. Got the tube work on the ARB done. Only thing left to do on it is make a fair lead and drill it. http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...3/P1020043.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...3/P1020044.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...3/P1020045.jpg Also got my sliders almost done. Probably going to add a couple center supports like the ones on my 1:1. I used a combination of square rod and round rod just like on my 1:1. http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...3/P1020046.jpg |
Got the Gobi rack basically done. need to drill mounting holes and as soon as the LEDs I ordered get here I will set up lights for it. Got the sliders mounted to the body for now, once I have the frame and suspension worked out they will be mounting to it. These pictures are with the body sitting at about the ride height I want and with the axle about the WB I want. http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...3/P1020057.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...P1020053-1.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...3/P1020054.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...3/P1020055.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...3/P1020056.jpg Let me know what you think. |
Trying to decide whether or not I should go this route.. http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...chstuff010.jpg |
Lookin great man - do you just glue everything together? |

Small update. I'll let the pics speak for themselves, have to get to work. http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...3/P1020064.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...3/P1020065.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...3/P1020066.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...3/P1020067.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...3/P1020069.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...3/P1020070.jpg |
What motor is that?? |
Automic MicroBB motor. It kinda sucks unless you are looking for speed or plan to re-wind it. |
i may be wrong, but i think the mirrors will fall off after a few tumbles |
ARB Bumper and rear bumper painted, Interior 25% done, grill painted and lenses installed along with LEDs behind them, and tail lights installed with LEDs as well. http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...3/P1020083.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...3/P1020085.jpg |
Did some more detail work. Got the steering situated, but it will be changing soon as I am getting a bit of binding with it. Will probably be ordering the SMC 4.5ex chassis as I'm hating my WB right now, lots of rubbing. http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...3/P1020100.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...3/P1020099.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...3/P1020098.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...3/P1020102.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u..._3716996_n.jpg Some goodies came so I will be able to start on the winch system as well as get a matching spare mounted and start on an off-road trailer :D http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...3/P1020104.jpg I'm thinking i will mount the winch in the rear and run a tube up to the front for the cable to run in. There just isn't any room in the front for it. http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...3/P1020106.jpg |
Looks really good! I'll be watching to see how it turns out. Have you tested the winch yet? Crious how strong it will be. |
Thanks! Yes I have tested it. It will do a vertical pull with my micro :D Oh yea, and my micro weighs in at about 20oz! |
Really nice build, I like the look of the front bumper. Are you going to put led on the gobi rack ? |
Thanks, It's almost an exact match to the ARB on my 1:1, almost "thumbsup" I can't decide whether or not I should put LEDs on the gobi rack. It will be a lot harder and of course take more power.. but I do have these tiny(literally the size of the end of a ball point pen) that put out almost as much light as my 3mm LEDs. Soldering and wire those up will be crazy hard though. Help me decide! |
Got even more detail work done later last night. Snatch strap and shackle: http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...330_090622.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...330_090648.jpg Wind deflector on the Gobi: http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...330_090605.jpg And this spare mount for my two of my RotoPax gas cans: http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...330_090508.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...330_090517.jpg Bolt is functional as is the strap. Here is the link to the real one: http://www.polyperformance.com/shop/...s-p-26215.html |
Sweet little rig. "thumbsup" |
Some more goodies came in so I got the matching spare mounted as well as a set for the trailer I will be starting soon. Also finished up the Rotopax gas cans, painted and bolted them up. Made a second D-ring. Also remounted the servo, still getting a little binding but I'll figure it out once my 4.5ex chassis gets here. http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...405_092154.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...405_092213.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...405_092204.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...405_092541.jpg |
Great job on the Scale Micro it looks awesome!! Blade |

Looks great! The little details really set it off, well done. Looks like it would pop one heckuva wheely!:ror: |

I'm guessing you mean with all the weight in the back from the spare and what not. Hopefully I'll be able to keep all for on the ground haha. I think I found a spot to mount the winch motor right behind the servo and the battery will be mounted about center mass so it should even out. Going to work on some lights for the Gobi tonight, won't be making them functional for now but maybe down the line. Any suggestions on things I should do are welcome! |
|
How strong is the styrene once its glued? Will it handle the basic roll overs you experience in crawling? |

4.5ex came! Got everything all mounted up. Trans now has full aluminum case, predator 80 is mounted up and I'm running a 55t aluminum spur gear. Also got the steering mounted and made a link for it, so far it's working pretty good. Was getting insane axle wrap in the rear so I stole the custom lower links on one of my other micros and put them on. They were a perfect fit and stopped all the axle wrap. http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...408_084601.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...08_0845372.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...408_084520.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...408_084508.jpg May be 4 linked and sprung by the end of the day.. |
Teaser video(ran out of memory) http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...h_P1020110.jpg Notice the 1:1 in the background :D ARB bumper sitting next to it because I'm doing some work on the engine, timing belt and water pump change, etc. Bumper is so heavy.. glad it didn't fall on me while I was unbolting it from underneath. Luckily it is much easier to work on the micro, parts weigh a lot less. Definitely going to try to 4 link it in the rear, maybe 3 link up front. I'm getting tons of tire rub on the leafs while turning. |

Haven't had time to try and 4 link it yet. Been working on the 1:1 as it was almost 80 degrees outside today :D |
Rear is 4 linked! Finally had some free time and decided to spend it on the micro. The rear is essentially done and will require minor tweaking once the front geometry is figured out. Some pictures: Keep in mind the front axle is still parallel to the ground, although there are no upper links which I'm sure will limit the flex slightly. http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...3/P1020143.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...3/P1020144.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...3/P1020145.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...3/P1020146.jpg Full rear droop: http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...3/P1020147.jpg Full passenger side stuff and driver side droop, no rubbing on sliders or frame: http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...3/P1020148.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...3/P1020149.jpg Front: I NEED HELP!!! http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...3/P1020151.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...3/P1020152.jpg With the servo there I am having trouble figuring out how to link it. Any ideas? |
Little update videos: http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...h_P1020169.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...P1020170-1.jpg Made some more scale accessories. Got some light buckets mounted up, just waiting to install my rectangular LEDs in them. Painted the Gobi. Got the front suspension figured out. Little bit of rubbing still but only on full lock. What do you guys thing? She's kinda top heavy but crawls pretty well. For those wondering, all my scale accessories are removable including the straps, the Gobi rack is bolted down(removable), both front and rear bumper are removable, as well as the spare. |
Some recent pics: http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...909_112911.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...909_112838.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...909_112802.jpg LEDs http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...909_093931.jpg And one of the 1:1(semi-recent) http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...0_194250-1.jpg |
Sweet runner Man! Where did you get an All-Pro decal that small? |
Thanks man. I think it came with a sticker pack from RPP but I'll have to check. |
