Motor upgrades for the MRC!
 

I have made a cool scaler out of my little MRC. I have built a 1/10 Suzuki Samurai besides my 2 1/1 Samurais.. It's a SCALER now so I really don't do rocks anymore. I do dirt, sand and mud now, but my stock engine got some water damage and now and then it just stops in the middle of a water pit..
What I want is a motor that has plenty of torque but also with enough wheelspeed! My scaler is nice, but ****, I hate it when it just can't get enough wheelspeed to get on a little slope or through some mud..

I have searched my ass off on google to find alternatives. I found the Losi mini slider motor and the Holmes mini torquemaster (22t or 33t). I have heard the stock losi crawler motor would be (35-37t). So i was going to buy the Holmes Mini Torquemaster (22t) but I couldn't check out on the site so that's a problem (something with the adress and choice of the package to be sent.. Can't find the button probably.. :p ). I was thinking like, i contact John on the forum but I can't send a PB to him cause that is turned off.. So the only alternative is probably the slider mini motor somewhere on Ebay. Somebody knows how many turns the stock mrc motor is and the slider mini motor?

So someone please respond and give some alternatives. I want like 50 to 75% more wheelspeed (that is 150 to 175%) or even more! But I still want it controllable and it needs to have enough torque though..

If you run a 33t homes,you can safley run 3s.
Volting up will give you more speed for sure.

I would say the holmes 33t on 3s,his 22t on 2s

How much does your truck weigh?

As far as I know, the stock Losi motor is quite high windings, about 50 or 60 maybe?
I run the Holmes mini 33T and its quite a jump up in wheel speed (makes a big difference in abililty to hop up rocks etc) and has superb torque low down. I have a 22T too, but have yet to try it out. The 33T is spot on at the moment for my use. (running 12T pinion and stock 60T spur gear [stock pinion is 14T, so I have geared it down slightly])

I'm using a 18 turn crawler mafia motor and 2s and a 3s for more power when I need it.

Last season I ran a Reedy Stump Puller with a 9t pinion. the stock pinion was way too fast, it was like a rock racer.

What do you mean by 3s and 2s? I really don't know what you're talking about.. :p I do know what the turns mean, 22 turns is faster then 33 turns.. I does weigh about 3.3 pounds I guess. (weight added to the wheels and chassis but I'm probably gonna remove these..)

I think I'll try the 33t, I still run the stock ESC and I don't want things to get too hot or getting messed up.

The thing probably flies?

Thanks, probably will start at the interior. :) I ordered 4 SDI trail doctors ultra soft compounds because I want some smaller tires again.. These are cool but too big and It doesn't have the flex it used to have. :)



Ok guys, I tell you some more about the electronics. I will still use the stock electronics (stock speed control, stock receiver etc..), I only have regular home made 7.2 1500ma 6 cell bats. Thanks for the help already guys! :)

3s or 2s means cells in a lipo battery. 3s more punch and power."thumbsup"

search around and get the info you need about pinion size and other info. There is an unbelievable amount of info on this site.

AH ok! But I do a lot of water, so Lipo doesn't like that too much no?.. And Lipos are quite expensive.. But I'll probably take the :ror: I'll probably take the 33 turns unless there are other suggestions. :)

If you want wheelspeed i'd buy the crawler mafia motor.

I have run both the HH and CM motors and wouldn't go back to the HH.
The CM is smoother has proven to be more reliable and runs a lot better. "thumbsup"

If you want to stay NiMH, another vote for the HH 22t.

If your not gonna go lipo,I would stick with the 22t.You said you wanted more wheelspeed,on 3s the 33t has that.
But if your gonna stick with lower voltage,you'll need the 22t to get your speed where you want it.

holmes 22t motor,14t pinion,60t spur should be real close to what you are after

I run the HH in mine, plenty fast! Another option is the Novak Mongoose brushless! I didn't see anyone mention that one yet;-)

Check around, you can find very good deals on Lipo. By there nature they have to be waterproof and air tight or they would explode. I would never switch back to any other type of battery.

Looks to be 16cm long and 7.5cm wide, not sure where you'd be able to fit that in your MRC :shock:

This is more the sort of thing you may want to look at - tiny and light. Maybe a bigger pack for longer run times, which are in stock on the CBP site.

They fit great on the MRC, have more kick than you'd ever need, 5C charge rate for the odd time when your in a hurry, cheap and great.

Hobbyking have them on backorder right now, but if you search ebay you'll find plenty of other sellers, they won't be as cheap mind.
