Well things have been on hold since that day.. I lost a king pin out of the lcc knuckle. Got a little ahead of myself to get it out to crawl I guess.. since then, I broke gears in my xr, had some carbon fiber parts to make, a kyosho mini inferno to get ready for my son for xmas, and had a friend drop my tamiya rally car back off()so I was getting that ready so my son an I could/can play together on xmas day. The new year shall bring great things tho!

Hey.. text me tomorrow about the xr gears.. I might be able to hook you up"thumbsup"

Re: its time! full on BWD mini mantis.. test, tune an crawl!

Ok, so I got a little visit from santas helper, lol, in the form of addicted2rc..

http://i1147.photobucket.com/albums/...7CCB9-orig.jpg

So from there I noticed without the wheel wideners on, the beadlock screws were wearing on my Dlux knuckle weights. So the wideners went back on.. but it put me at 8.25" track width..

http://i1147.photobucket.com/albums/...8BAC1-orig.jpg

so I went back to the idea of the modlocks being a adjustable wheel width.. so I got to work..

Stock.. front an back..

http://i1147.photobucket.com/albums/...5F605-orig.jpg

http://i1147.photobucket.com/albums/...9BCF8-orig.jpg

So I drilled some holes for depth check, then I was goin to take out the sections between the 6 beadlock screws, but there was more material there then I thought.. so I just dremeled it out..

http://i1147.photobucket.com/albums/...DC52D-orig.jpg

http://i1147.photobucket.com/albums/...63755-orig.jpg

And the diff is...

http://i1147.photobucket.com/albums/...813EA-orig.jpg

http://i1147.photobucket.com/albums/...6BC2A-orig.jpg

One part wasn't taking the bead good enough so I did a little bit more, then I started the second wheel..

http://i1147.photobucket.com/albums/...4D5D6-orig.jpg

I only use 3 screws to hold the two pieces of wheel together..

http://i1147.photobucket.com/albums/...53AF5-orig.jpg

Both done an have good beads locked in..

http://i1147.photobucket.com/albums/...69E50-orig.jpg

Oh, in between wheel one an wheel two, I emailed Don.. I asked for two milled the correct way for this mod, but I'm not good at waiting.. when he can get them mailed out ill switch them to stock way an use the two new faces.

I don't feel that this took away from any structural integrity.. if it comes to be, I can just run every other bead lock screw in from each side to catch both wheel pieces. That will make it as one wheel an subtract the foam support from bein the only thing that holds the two pieces of wheel together..

On to final product mounted..

http://i1147.photobucket.com/albums/...5443C-orig.jpg

This puts me at 7.75" track width an took the roller skate look away from it an put the inner bead lock screws outside of my knuckle weights..

http://i1147.photobucket.com/albums/...10E6E-orig.jpg

Looks like a pro rig now, I like it.. out to the rocks tomm for testing. I know, it seems like a lot just to switch the whole front axle over next week.. I want to know every change an every pro an con of every change tho.. the way this chassis works, this will be my number 1 comp rig. Test an tune is all I have left.. maybe even a brace in the tail section.. time will tell..

happy holidays an a merry xmas..

Ya coulda just narrowed your wideners some :ror: anyway good job on it "thumbsup" You getting some more vids? Cause I'm leaving tomorrow so IDK if I can post them for ya...

Re: its time! full on BWD mini mantis.. test, tune an crawl!

I thought bout that.. but may need the wideners else where.. that an this is reversible.. narrowing the wideners isn't..
Doubt ill get any video..

I did get to run a pack thru it tho. Night an day.. between the beadlock screws not binding on the weights to the wheels bein so wide that the knuckle weights would hit the rocks cause the wheels stuck out so wide.. next was the drag link an tie rod. Noticed them catching on this rig.. lack of tire height I guess.. so I went to work..

Starting point..

http://i1147.photobucket.com/albums/...A3AB2-orig.jpg

I just put the tie rod over the axle, under the servo mount.. the drag link went up top..

http://i1147.photobucket.com/albums/...E5837-orig.jpg

Very clean an open in the front now..

http://i1147.photobucket.com/albums/...90DCD-orig.jpg

Next, I think a straight link end at the wheel side on the drag link..

Thanks Chris, an you know it! I don't know what I would do without it! I think its time for a upgraded dremel tho.. I have to hold the brush cover on it to get it to work half the time..

Thanks Ryan.. want one again? What happen to the half dozen you had? I have to go atleast 2 hrs to a comp to get to one. Well worth crawling an a chance at a win!

As for the mini build, I did A little, that I don't have pics of an I ordered the Dlux no slop bushings so I can finish up the xr/wraith steering mod an get the universals in..

Lol, I was just talking bout bringing rock into the house for crawling with the xr.. so yeah, it will be soon.. it went from nice out, xmas, Bam! Foot of snow, 12hr shifts of plowing snow, today.. just like that...

I don't have much left to do..
bushings for the knuckles, cut down xr universals, new power plant, cf beadlock rings an weight holders for the rear.. more testing.. crawl to the top of the podium! :)

Well get to we need real updates with pictures:mrgreen::lmao:

Re: its time! full on BWD mini mantis.. test, tune an crawl!

Not a huge update but leads to better things an more work can be completed..

http://i1147.photobucket.com/albums/...4547C-orig.jpg

http://i1147.photobucket.com/albums/...130B3-orig.jpg

Paper thin, single layer of CF.. only attached at the chassis at lower links an cab mount screw. Free floating in the rear.

Dlux no slop bushings for the wraith knuckles..

http://i1147.photobucket.com/albums/...AE2F3-orig.jpg

Knuckle weights cut for weight..

http://i1147.photobucket.com/albums/...F1742-orig.jpg

http://i1147.photobucket.com/albums/...AF84F-orig.jpg

http://i1147.photobucket.com/albums/...ABA5A-orig.jpg

http://i1147.photobucket.com/albums/...211E8-orig.jpg

The weight will get drilled an tapped for a set screw to hold the weight against the knuckle an 3 stock screws to hold it to the face will go in.. a little heavy yet, not by much, so a little more cutting may be in order..

winnerone23 01-10-2013 09:32 AM

Re: its time! full on BWD mini mantis.. test, tune an crawl!

Moving forward.. Dlux no slop bushings, an vp knuckles modded for wraith knuckles..

http://i1147.photobucket.com/albums/...7DF00-orig.jpg

http://i1147.photobucket.com/albums/...1B3CD-orig.jpg

The screw is for visibility, it will be replaced with a link end set screw..

http://i1147.photobucket.com/albums/...975D4-orig.jpg

http://i1147.photobucket.com/albums/...C8AB1-orig.jpg

The axle sits at 6" at the face of the knuckles, which is bout .5" wider then the face of the lcc knuckles on the axle now. The lcc axle has wideners an leaves me with a 7.5" track width, so plenty of room for testing..

Re: its time! full on BWD mini mantis.. test, tune an crawl!

New motor showed up, yay! Thanks to motorman1600, custom handwound 27t..

http://i1147.photobucket.com/albums/...D08B9-orig.jpg

As I'm running a 33t HH mini right now, ill get more torque an wheel speed on 2s with this motor... I'm not a big fan of the 17-18t motors. So the option of wind I wanted was awesome!

Re: its time! full on BWD mini mantis.. test, tune an crawl!

Got a rtr weight today, as it sits with the Dlux weights an lcc modded axle and bout a pound lighter then my mini juice!

http://i1147.photobucket.com/albums/...51FA2-orig.jpg

2lbs 8.2oz... I'm not sure it matters as much with the little guys but I'm loving how it works an now I got some time, since my xr is up an running an parts I was making, out of the way.. I'm back on route with the xr steering.. which may add some weight in the long run but should be better steering. Making it work while!

EverettY 01-14-2013 04:24 PM

Re: its time! full on BWD mini mantis.. test, tune an crawl!
