| My Over the Top Somewhat Budget Brushless TCS Edge Mini
This is my almost finished Mini. I've put a ton on money into it, but I have also saved a lot by using some budget friendly parts. The motor and ESC are Hobbywing 1/18 scale 18amp 18T brushless combo from Hobbypartz.com. Which by the way kicks ass! Very fast, and way to much power on just a two cell! and at just $27 quite a steal. Plus I got a 2s 15c 850mah exceed lipo for $1.75 with a run time of over 40min! Unfortunatly Hobby Partz prices have almost doubled in just a few weeks. I still need to cut and paint sides and install my Alu Knuckles and Inner C's, and build front links. The rear I custom made a 4 Link mount and links. Hopefully you can see most of the upgrades in the pics, but i can post specs if needed. |

Thanks! They are 15mm I believe from TCS. 1.9 Axial 8 Hole Beadlocks with ProLine 1.9 Flat Irons. They are a little over weight 6oz per tire/wheel front and 3oz rear. The wheels and tires were going to be for my scaler, but I tried them on my mini and I liked them |

Looks good. The rear pinion angle looks pretty extreme in the first pic. How is it when it's flexed? A lipo for $1.75? Was that from Hobbypartz too? |

Yeah, the pinion is way high, i was trying to get it above the lower link. A big no no for 1:1 but it doesn't seem to affect my mini. I'm pretty hard on stuff so I got the solid chassis, I think I would have been fine with the tube chassis. Yeah lipo from HobbyPartz. It's was my first purchase from them, and so far I'm happy with the product and service. |

the tube version i think it would bend before it would brake. mine has taking a beating. its ben rolled 40 feet down the side of a rock before it fell off the side which is 5 or 6 foot droop. btw i like your cc. its subtle and dosent stick out like a sore thumb but that what makes it cool Last edited by gottorque; 10-14-2009 at 07:28 PM. |

Some updates. After some time out with it, I realized it has way to much flex, even with 1/8" spacer limiters on the inside and outside of the shocks. So what I did was remove the outside spacer, to let it sit a little lower, and I put a longer spacer inside the shock to limit travel to about half. It seems to work really well now. Well I got some body panels on it finally. I used .04 lexan and bright green metalic paint. The hardest part was getting all the holes to line up, but it came out great. The camera flash makes it look funny, but it actually isn't as bright and almost matches the green axial beadlock rings perfectaly. |

How is that ESC/Motor combo working out for you? It seems like a really good deal.

Any more info you can give on that brushless setup? I see it has a Rock-crawler mode...how do you like it? Good drag brake? |

The brushless combo has been working out great, a ton of power, and I would say perfect wheel speed with an 8T pinion. It's a high KV motor, I think like 5200kv, but with the 8T it has great power and is a bit faster than stock. The only issue is that my rear axle upper control arm mount is loosening do to the beatings, so I might go with one of the traditional styled 4 link mounts. The drag brake is great, I actually turned it way down, because it was to much. I am still very impressed with all the settings that this ESC allows, and I have had to issues with electronics, and the little battery last a long time. I'm bored before the battery is run down. They are the Losi alu shocks for the mini, limited to about half travel using fuel line inside the shocks. I still need to steep up to a thicker oil to see how it effects handling. The track width from outside of tire to outside of tire, is right at 8"s. Last edited by Diablo169; 01-26-2010 at 01:22 PM. |

Oh man, flash back. Regret I ever took this apart. It was my only reliable crawler at the time. I think I have all the parts still... |
