CFX-W Problems and must do upgrades

Now that my little CFX build is done, I am sold on these MST kits. My next build is going to be a CFX-W. I'm in the planning phase right now. I was wonder what their weak points are and what upgrades do you guys recommend? Thanks in advance!

It's a pretty nice kit already out of the box. If going to a 313mm wheel base, the boom Racing links are really nice.

Aluminum wheel nuts are probably good too get.

Shocks with different spring options would probably be high on priority.

I think the biggest must do is probably get better wheels and tires.

What's the advantage of aluminum wheel nuts?

I was looking at the directions for this. I see that it comes with 70mm shocks, just like the little cfx. I'm wondering if the shocks and springs are the same.

Mostly to prevent from losing a pin when swapping wheels and tires. There's always that chance when removing the wheels that the plastic nut will come out a little bit and that small pin will just drop out. The aluminum wheel nuts with screws to lock them into place will prevent that.

They might be. I am running the stock shocks right now, but I plan to probably go to 80mm GMade RSDs.

If the driveshafts are the same as on the cfx, youll need to upgrade those with the bigger tyres and torque youll be putting through it.

Also i think the aluminium wheel nuts the other guy is on about is the 12mm hexes

Check, now I understand, I call that part the wheel hex. I like the narrow Axial hexes.

Re: CFX-W Problems and must do upgrades

Hi,

I just finished my CFX-W and I could recommend the following:

1-. Bearing : Use the full 55 Pcs kit of BoomRacing. Those that come with the kit are not very good and at the time they are a point of failure.

2-. The DriveShatf's (Central, Front and Rear) : those that come with the Kit look good, in high resistance plastic, but I think they do not support much.

3-. Shock : well-stock in stock work but I think they fall short in performance.

They are from my point of view the main points of update.

An important note. The first versions of the Kit come to 300mm of wheelbase, in my case use the boomracing kit of steel to take it to 313mm.

But MST got a new revision of the CFX-W Kit that already comes stock at 313mm, and you no longer need the boomracing kit.

You are absolutely right, I meant to say hexes. It's what happens when I try to give an answer while distracted.

Good info, thank you! Sounds like the same upgrades I did with my little cfx. Do you know what other changes were made to the new version?

I don't think there is an old version or new version.

Both of those come stock at 300mm but have the necessary spacers included for you to adjust to 313mm. If you look at my build you will see how I changed it to roughly 313mm wheelbase with the parts that come out of the box.

The reason to get the Boom Racing 313mm links is mainly for weight. They are pretty hefty and can add significant weight down low.

The difference in those part numbers are that one is the kit only, and the other one is the kit + motor + esc. Otherwise it's the same kit.

You can check the MST site for details.

With the old version the complements do not manage to reach the 313mm perfectly. In my case, use the Boomracing kit with the new link "s with greater distance.

The new version of the CFX-W does not require to use more stock part's, the link's come with the necessary distance.

Cool, thanks.

Just looked it up. Great price on those links. The 280 grams is nice as well.

The stock links and rod ends are poo. The boom kit is really nice and tuff as hell.

To those of you that are running one these rigs -

Have you found any issue with the strength of the portal gears and/or the shafts in them? That's my biggest concern for this rig..

Re: CFX-W Problems and must do upgrades

Read something about bearings that came with kit are no good. Why? Is the boomracing better quality?

OldNTired 09-26-2017 06:49 AM

Re: CFX-W Problems and must do upgrades

They use cheap bearings in the kit. You would be better off with a set of Fast Eddy bearings. The Boom Racing kit IS better quality than the stock links. The links that come with the kit, while aluminum, are hollow. The BR kit adds some good weight down low. The solid stainless steel links are a great upgrade.
