| Steering servo for clod sized wheel/tires
What's everyone using? I ran a search on this sub forum and didn't get much. I'd like to keep this around $100 if possible. Thanks! |

I'm running Holmes but with the big tires and big jumps they don't last very long. Broken or bent pins and stripped out servo horns are the norm. I just installed an HR heavy duty servo saver but I think it's going to be too sloppy. Too bad nobody makes a real heavy duty servo saver that is designed for ultra torque servos.

I have a Savox 2290 but im saving for another build and it is probably out of your price range. The Savox 1283SG (not 100% sure as they have so many, maybe someone else will chime in) has one of the strongest gear sets of any servo and it's under $100. Might be worth a look.

https://www.amazon.com/Savox-SC-1258...steering+servo My concern is that most of the praise comes from buggy and slash guys. Those tires are pretty tiny compared to clods. Answers to questions like..... "Yes it will fit the Savage. Fine for throttle. I would not use this servo for steering though. You really want something with more torque to handle the large MT tires. This servo wouldn't work well for 3.8 or larger MT tires and would self destruct quickly" Last edited by chino; 12-20-2016 at 07:04 AM.

I'm also looking at these. I haven't run this brand in years though. https://www.amazon.com/Hitec-37955S-...=hitec+hs+7955 |

No he meant the savox 1283sg just as he said. It's not the most brutally strong servo out there but it is very durable. The savox 2290 is more money but it's damned well worth the cash. The promodler V4 is solid and so far has been durable but like the 1283 it isn't going to rip the steering knuckles off your axle like the 2290 will.

Me and another guy in our club run these without servo savers zero failures so far (other than the one that didn't work out of the package that Tower replaced no questions asked). It's a Hitec with a tower sticker on it. TowerHobbies.com | Tower Hobbies TS-170 Standard Digital UT 2BB TG Servo U |

That tower CS-170 is the same as a Hitec 7955. I have one in my old DMG DR-II. Don't think it'll have enough torque though.

The promodeler is also a good choice. I have a few, haven't used them too much but have also never had an issue with them.

All clamping? I only ask cause my racers edge clamping stripped on my first off angle landing. Maybe I didn't tighten it up enough.

So what is everyone looking for as far as torque and speed is concerned? Are we talking crawler torque and rally speed or just a decent combination of both? I have no choice due to budget, so I'll be running my old Futaba S9157 which I'm sure will be fine...just curious as to what specs people are looking for when building these. SPECIFICATIONS Torque: 425oz-in (30.6kg/cm) @ 6V Speed: 0.14 @ 6V Size: 1.6 x 0.8 x 1.5" (41 x 21 x 37mm) Weight 2.5oz (71g) Horn Screw Size: 3x8mm |

If it's a custom application, I can recommend the 1235mg. Much stronger than my Hitec 7950 and only 40 dollars. The horn splines look like a torx head. You'll never ever strip the plastic horn.
