Jimbo_wa's OH35A01 1/35th Jeep

Well it's arrived!

Just a few pics to start of the box, contents and a comparison with my Orlandoo F-150 and the 1/24th IFA-W50 also from Sam...

I must admit that having built a few of the original F-150's this is in a totally different league...

The plastics and moldings are extremely high quality and you don't need to drill out any holes for the ball links. However, due to the size of the screws and the overall build, unless you are a decent modeler and have some patience - this is not the kit for you!

I needed a 0.9mm hex driver, 00 crosshead screwdriver, modeling knife and file for the build itself, but a small toolkit (+grease) is included.

The gearbox motor is a very tight fit (needed to file inside of the mount) and due to my choice of servo needed to heavily mod the front rails and cross members to make it all fit!

Anyway, onto the pics and take my advice - use a 2.2g servo as Sam recommends!

Does the kit come with windows?

Looking great so far, thanks for the updates!

It certainly does, but as they are one piece it's not being installed until the body's been painted! Just to be clear there are no electrics with the kit, but it's fully ballraced, metal gears and the same front UJ's as the Orlandoo upgraded metal axles.

The details are amazing - there's space for lLED ights (8 total - 6x SMD and 2x 4mm) to install and a couple of sprues with door handles, wipers, etc. for the body too.

And thanks for the thanks! "thumbsup"

I'm definitely interested! I have been eyeing this kit for a while now. VERY close to pulling the trigger!

The biggest issue with the F150 (as you have noticed as well, having removed the bumpers) is that it tends to get stuck trying to climb steep inclines, either from the bumpers or getting it's belly stuck.
This one looks much better in that regard.

How is the wheel and tire compatibility with the F150 ?
Are they the same size ?

Yip, identical wheel hub and tyre size.

Sorry for all of the questions, but do the tires and wheels come pre-glued? I want to remove the chrome finish and dye the wheels black.

Thanks for the info Jimbo. I have one on the way now I'm hoping to get it this week yet. I'm looking forward to some more running videos.

1967Typhoon - the tyres are un-glued,so easy to repaint the stock rims!

Electrics now in and spun the motor around to give a bit more room up front - also hacked away at the rear mounting brackets to free up space. Re-cased the SR410 in heatshrink, direct soldering the motor wires and put brass tubing on the links so it's all good!

Given a quick run it needs some weight in the front to help climbing, but the SWB stops it getting hung too much and the new axles are so much better than the F-150 plastic ones.

Looking very nice Jimbo! Will the F150 get the upgraded axles too?

Hi Jimbo! :)

Newbie here. Been watching the threads/topics on these Orlandoo crawlers, ordered one myself, can't wait for it :) The reason I'm writing: I've been thinking about putting the Micro DT wheels and tyres on the OH35A01 ( basically the same as you have on the F150 ). But I have my doubts about them fitting properly. Would you be so kind as to do me a favor ? Could you please put the DT wheels on the " Wrangler " and post a few pics of them, and a few words of the fit ? I would be very grateful! :)

Thank you for your time reading this.

Alex

Thanks Alex - here's the pic, but IMO they are too wide and need serious work to fit.

Keep an eye on Chevy55's thread as he's the master at these things!

Hi, your project looks fantastic! Can you tell us about your choice of esc (xys-bl20a)?

Thanks, it was cheap and small(ish)...

Would like to get a smaller one in the future but this works and as the motor is geared, you don't need to worry about a drag brake.

Thanks Jimbo, sorry I'm a newb with this stuff. If you have low voltage servo like banggood recommends, then you cannot use this esc correct? Also, did you remove the on/off switch?

Re: Jimbo_wa's OH35A01 1/35th Jeep

You can leave the switch on or remove it. I deleted it from my Trekker project. This has a cab that attaches, so it would be easier to tuck. I've seen builds that have dedicated batteries that don't get removed to charge and the balance plug is attached so you can put an extension onto it to charge it. Then the on/off switch is also attached somewhere, too. I think this will be my approach in my next one. Hopefully it won't explode.....

Yep, you'll need the stock ESC to use a LV servo (or a converter cable).

I've found that keeping an on/off switch is preferable so stuck it on top of the servo (you can see it in the top down, body off shot with the battery). Means that I can hook up the battery, put on the body and use a screwdriver to turn it on when I want...

Fingers crossed on the non-explodey battery Brake Weight!
