Default Discharging a NiMh Batt

Hi, I recently got some nimh batts and just a wall charger that takes 7.5 hours to charge one. I do have a nicd charger/discharger. Would I be able to use the discharge feature on that to discharge the nimh batts? The charger is a tower hobbies (420 I think...) It's the one that has the ac/dc feature on it.

Reason I ask is I DO NOT want to ruin these new batts. They're the first NiMh batts I've EVER owned.

Thanks
-Tim

First of all, why do you want to discharge NiMh batts anyway? They dont carry a "memory" like the NiCad batts do. Thats whats so great about them. So you can just charge them and leave them untill you want to use em. I hope this answered your question.

just make sure you guys don't discharge ni-mh packs all the way like you could with ni-cd (basically don't run your truck until it'll barely move). that'll kill your new ni-mh packs quicker than anything. pull the packs out and recharge at the first sign of a performance drop.

a few years ago i attached a bulb discharge harness to my first ni-mh pack. thank goodness it was a cheap sport pack, as it was toast after the first complete discharge. lesson learned.

You can use the discharger if you wanted/needed to, but as already mentioned, it's not important for NiMh packs.
