Default Amp draw?

Noticed that when I gave my truck small inputs of throttle the motor would strain and I'd need to give it more throttle for it to move.. So I took the motor out and slowly gave it throttle. Turns out with small amounts of throttle it wouldn't spin, it needed more to start up. This was with a 2/3A size pack(6 cell, like the ones that go in 18th scale cars) so I was wondering if maybe the batteries are having problems supplying enough amps. I hooked up a normal sized pack and it seemed to lessen the problem, couldn't really tell. Is it possible I need to upgrade batteries to supply more amps?

Okay, I'll double-check everything. I rolled the chassis before and it didn't bind, so it must be something else. Thanks
