|  How do ya get a ring of rubber off a rim
i cut these shitty tires only for the rims but theres a ring of rubber thats glued and wont come off any suggestions besides gettin new rims?

I have boiled a set of rims/tires before (cant rememeber for how long) and that seperated the CA, and I could get the tires off

x2 for acetone. I submerge wheels in an airtight food storage container filled with acetone over night. Acetone is readily available from "nail art" suppliers. it's the major constituent of "old school" nail varnish remover. |

That surprises me. Here in the UK, stuff like that hasn't been on general sale for years for health and safety reasons. A lot of useful chemicals and solvents are practically unobtainable here these days, like isopropyl alcohol and ammonia. | |

It's been getting worse for years, ever since we joined the European Union. They come up with all this health and safety BS, and Britain seems to be the only country that takes any notice and bans anything that's even slightly hazardous. The French make up the rules and then ignore them. I think they do it to wind us up. From what I can tell, you can buy and sell anything this side of Uranium in the US, as long as it's got a safety sticker on it. We can't even buy proper solder any more! |

Most CA is brittle and can be chipped out. In the past I have used a sharp flat blade screwdriver that is just as wide as the channel where the tire bead sits. Slit the bead in one spot and start there. Just work the driver under the CA and twist a bit to get it to pop apart. I just did this yesterday on my factory MRC rims I dropped them into a pot of boiling water for about 5 mins and pulled one out at a time used a fork 1st till the wife chewed my ass than I got off my lazy rear and went to garage for a good flathead screwdriver All 4 rims took me about 15 mins it will require a little elbow grease |

If you live in the UK and dont have acsess to chemicals then most likely the nail poslish remover wont work, howevr here are a few things you can do that will take em right off. Boiling water, for about 30 minutes (dont keep the stove on high, just hot enough to keep the water boiling. You can add salt, and vinager to the water, it will help break down the glue. If you have acess to a hot knife, then that'll work. Just set it to its lowest setting and go nice and slow. Pin-Sol will do the trick, if you let the wheels sit in a tub of it for about 30 minutes. No matter what you do, your gonna need at least a flat head screw driver, I have always used a razor knife with great results tho. | |
