Default Another newbie with a ARTR Axial

Hello, I not a newbie to RC, but I am to crawling. I just bought a Scorpion ARTR and have been searching these forums to decide what electronics I should get. I plan on bashing at first, but would like to have the capability for comps.

Servo: I have ordered a Hitec HS-985MG

Radio: Either a DX3R or Futaba PM-X, leaning towards the Futaba.

Motor: http://www.rcplanet.com/ProductDetai...05001&CartID=2
plus the motor leads http://www.rcplanet.com/ProductDetai...I4000&CartID=3

ESC: Either the Sidewinder or FXR, you can't go wrong with either one from what I understand

I will also need a BEC with this setup, correct?

I'm not sure what batteries to start with, should I start with lipo, if so any recommendations?

Are there any other parts or accessories I need to pick up to get my rig running? Do I need an aluminum servo horn?

Any comments/or recommendations on my selections would be great!

Thanks in advance. This is a great site with a wealth of information!

Basic power, good start but something over 300oz would be better

Futaba all the way

I would recommend a 45t but OK.

ya can just solder the leads so connectors can get pulled apart by the rocks.

ESC: Either the Sidewinder or FXR, you can't go wrong with either one from what I understand

Ya will need the castle link with the sidewinder and an fxr combo may be a better deal. I like the drag brake, easy programing and small size of the fxr but the sidewinder is rock solid.

Yes

I'm not sure what batteries to start with, should I start with lipo, if so any recommendations?

Yes go 3cell lipo. Something in the 1000-1500 ah range with at least 20c continuous and not over 70mm long to fit on the front axle. I'm liking the Hyperion G3 VX series.

Are there any other parts or accessories I need to pick up to get my rig running? Do I need an aluminum servo horn?

Yes, on a good servo horn. Aslo pick up some traxxas stampede driveshafts, and rod ends.

Any comments/or recommendations on my selections would be great!

I think ya got a pretty good start. A rear 4link plate and front 4link/battery plate is a cheap and effective upgrade. Drilling and threading the lower links to 4m and putting traxxas revo ends on them will save ya from broken links. Some lighter front springs is a good idea too. Oh yeah I forgot GET SOME ROVERS.

Thanks in advance. This is a great site with a wealth of information!

I would for sure get some softer springs and maybe limit the shocks some, I would also get some different tires like oldhippie suggested everything else looks good I would also recommend a 45t as well with a 3 cell.

So would you recommend a better motor like a Holmes instead of the Integy one? I figured I should start with a cheaper motor until I get the hang of motor maintainance.
