Missing Newbie Glossary Definition Sorry if this has been answered elsewhere, but I couldn't find it using the search and it is not in the glossary of terms for newbies. What is a "drag brake"? From reading some posts about it, I am guessing it is a feature of some ESC's, but just what is it? What is it used for? |
It is in the ESC and it applys power to the motor to keep the crawler from free wheeling down a steep slope. Not all ESC's have this option, a Tekin FXR is an ESC with a good dragbrake. |
Okay, this sounds familiar... Lego had this feature on the first generation Robotics Invention System. You could program a small computer to tell the motor to actively restrict the motor from moving. But, that was a special type of motor as well. Any such motor restrictions required with an RC crawler's ESC? |
Drag brake NO, brushed or brush-less they all work, but am sure a more expensive motor has a better magnet. |
Just go to tekins website and look at the FX-R. That will be a good esc, or go to Holmes hobbies and get the Torque master BR-XL http://holmeshobbies.com/product.php...4&cat=0&page=1 http://www.teamtekin.com/pm_rockcrawling.html |
Thanks for the replies Like I keep saying, I love this forum! Thanks also for the product recommendations, even though I was only seeking to educate myself. However, that information will be useful if I ever have a need for a new ESC. (My RTR Wheely King just arrived today:mrgreen::mrgreen::mrgreen::mrgreen::mrgreen: ) |
