gear lube

What is a good gear lube to run in transmission and axles Thanks BOB

Mobile one full or semi synthetic is fine. Just make sure you don't get something to overlly thick.

I use high viscosity marine grease. Its not somthing to use to "pack" somthing full, but it works for a light application to everything.

Do not use white lithium, it dries out and gets hard fast. I use Lucas Red & Tacky, from what I get it's about the same as the mobile one mentioned above.

Shoot Team3Six a pm or goto his website and get his gearjelly the best there is"thumbsup"

I use marine grease to. You can buy small tubes of it. It does better at repelling the water and things, so if you drive in water or mudd thats my $0.02 :)

Anybody use wheel bearing grease? I have a small tub of it not being used for anything and I may use it on my bullys when I get them.

its not to bad its about like any other grease about the consistancy of a thick milkshake

cwazyduck 01-27-2010 05:18 PM

I've been using bar soap on my gears in my race trucks for a few years, and I've started using it in my crawlers as well now and haven't seen any noticeable wear and everything still spins smooth.

nowdedispu 01-27-2010 06:18 PM

how often should one change the fluid? every 3000 miles?

I was just shopping for grease as well. I ended up with a tube of Lucas Red & Tacky for about $4.00. I have not seen any negative reviews on it.

The only product I have seen with nothing but positive reviews was the gearjelly. Even though it is made by rocksmith, Team3Six is a distributor for it. I probably should have bought it, but the Lucas Red & Tacky should be good enough for my needs.

This is what I had at hand when I built my crawlers and it seems to work well:
