Are you asking if you can wire in the BEC before the ESC, because it's not rated for 3s?
I can't say for sure, but it makes sense - set the BEC's output to what the ESC is capable of handling. Have you an external LVC?

You can get a couple of 2s Lipos cheaper than a new BEC and would be the safest way to go.

i don't know of any low voltage cutoff protectors that work with the traxxas xl-5 waterproof esc. I want 3s lipos for more torque and speed when needed.

You will need to find some way to not let that battery drop below 3.0V/cell. Either use a low voltage cutoff, get a new ESC or periodically check the voltage on the pack.

Are you wanting to power the xl-5 off of the BEC?

I'm wanting to use a 3s lipo on my xl-5 esc but I know that it can't handle it.

You need a new ESC, there's no way around it. In the meantime just plug in a 3s pack and see how long it keeps the magic smoke inside, nothing to lose IMO. I run a 2s goat on 3s without issue except for cutoff (wouldn't try it with a brushless motor though) and lots of Rooster's live long happy lives on 3s.

Yes but I don't have a lipo pack yet but I also don't wanna kill a lipo either.

You wont hurt the battery....unless you run the voltage too low.

Why were you asking about a BEC in an earlier post? Were you hoping to use the BEC to lower the voltage going to the ESC?

A BEC set to 2s voltage would work to power the ESC but if you don't have this stuff yet, just plan for, or stick with, 2s. If you really want to run a 3s, budget for the right ESC and waterproof it.

I know it's not what you want to hear but cutting this kind of corner will likely cost you more in the end.
