Default 3 Link 4 Link

I see these terms all the time, and I gather there is either 3 or 4 links holding the suspension together.... Can someone shed some more details on the meanings - Some pics of the difference would be good.

Ta all.

A 4 link set up will use 4 individual links or arms. A three link set up will use 3 links or arms. Typically a 3 link has 2 lower arms a left and a right and a Y shaped upper arm. The stock axial ax10 uses a 3 link set up. The more triangulation there is the less the axle will move side to side. I.e. at the axle end the lower links will be wider and the upper links will be closer together. It would be the opposite on the chassis end. Links close together at the skid plate and wider on the chassis. There are a ton of other variables and different configurations on the 1:1 rigs but the rc stuff uses 3 or 4 link set ups. sorry no pics hope this helps.

Thanks Neutron. I think it helps. I've seen how the SCX10 goes together and the Y link you refer to. So those 3 points on the axle are the 3 link? A 4 link set up would have 2 seperate links instead of the Y piece. Correct?

4 is better I presume, but 3 is adequate for a newbie??

you can attain better link geometry and control torque twist more with a 4-link suspension. but yes a 3-link is perfectly fine till you feel like upgrading or want to make adjustments to your suspension

Yes you are correct. There is little differense between a 3 and 4 link for most people. Its not until you get into changing your suspension geometry that it starts to make a difference.
