| How do you clean your RC?
Got my son a Wraith for Christmas and it has rained here since then so now it is muddy. We've done the "trying to clean it with a wet rag deal" but it really needs washed with a hose. So is there anything that shouldn't get wet?

i usually spray simple green on the truck, let it sit for a few seconds then blow it off with an air compressor.

How to Waterproof your SCX10 it's for an SCX10 but should be around the same concept for a wraith. I usually just wet rag and take the tires off and soap/water them. | |

I run all waterproof stuff in my rigs. After muddy runs (almost everyone) I use a sink hose and rinse it off. But I always re oil everything after this. I also pull the axles and trans apart often to check them. But they really have not needed much. I just like to make sure. I put plenty of grease in the axles and trans. I also sealed all of the openings in them. Between this and the good amount of grease they have held up great. No bad bearings as of yet. After the hosing, I oil all bearings with light oil. Then I run it around for a few minutes so it spreads around inside of the bearings. I then let it sit and then just use a rag to wipe off extra oil. I enjoy working on them and do not mind the time to maintain after a run. Almost all of the bearings can get oil in them with out major disassembly. I pull the wheels to get at the outer axle bearings in the knuckles and rear axle. All others are accessible. This is on my SCX10 rigs as I do not have a Wraith. But it should be similar. On the Wraith, diff/axle maintenance should be even easier with the removable diff covers.

All depends on where I run. Most places, I can let the rig dry and just use a tooth brush or paint brush and brush away the dirt. Works well. Then oil all bearings and you're good. Every 5th or so run, I completely tear down the axles and trans. -B |

I've used computer duster and compressed air but to clean mud I've been gentle with water soap, and a small brush. It's time consuming but I'm picky and love having it perfect again. But definitely oil after.

I run cheap blue-bird servos that are waterproof, and if I cook one now and then they are only $17. Speed controls are waterproofed with liquid electrical tape. If my esc is not waterproof then I remove it. Most of mine are. If there is too much dirt/mud to get at the electronics I want to remove then I use HPI Nitro Cleaner first, them remove them. otherwise I use the Nitro Clean on the electronics after I pull them. You could just use nitro-clean on the whole thing, but it is not cheap. After that I spray it with Simple Green and blow it off with an air compressor. if it's really bad I take it to the bath tub (I don't have a laundry tub) and spray then rinse, then blow with air compressor. I use a "dry film" lubricant wrather than WD-40 as a follow-up. The only time I use WD-40 is BEFORE a mud run I'll coat the underside and arms so the mud doesn't stick. |
