Default Tamiya F-150 Race Truck?

Has anyone ever looked into using this as a crawler or even a pre-runner starting point? 1:10 scale shafty, with a 540 motor, full time 4WD, 3 FWD speeds, ball diff in the rear, etc...

I figure you take this and throw in a Tekin or something to replace the mech. speed control...maybe even a brushless setup, then throw on some 2.2 tires and wheels and have yourself a pretty good runner.

Yeah, there was a few of us in Colorado that built them. The tires are hard as a rock, but they can be replaced.

You can see some video of us beating on them here.

That just makes me laugh...it looks like the video was on fast forward looks like they go pretty quick...and it seems like they are pretty stout with all that beating they were taking. Think I am going to pick one up and make it my next official project car....I can see alot of possibilities

They are extremely durable. I think everyone was running the stock can in that video. Only one diff was locked on them too. We were going to start a Trials type class for comps. Stock tires, stock wheels, stock wheelbase, and 1 diff locked front or rear. But, that's about the time we all got TLT's too, so it never happened.

I was thinking of making it into a long travel pre-runner project. Does it seem to have a pretty straight forward suspension and drivetrain...not all goofy and bulky is it?

They have 2 gear boxes with a wire prop shaft that connects them. The stock chassis doesn't have much ground clearance, but bigger tires will help that. The stock dogbones are short, so long travel will require mods to stop binding.

Here's a link to my LAV rig. They are the same as the stadium trucks, with just a little longer wheelbase.

Just so you know, this truck does not have a shiftable 3-speed transmission (like the vintage Tamiyas or the big-rigs). It comes with an MSC (mechanical speed control), which provides three different "steps" in speed.
