| Low Budget Crawler
This will be my first crawler and I'm looking to spend $200 or less RTR(Ready To Rockcrawl). This is about as cheap as it gets: $70 TLT-1 Kit $90 Used Stampede RTR with ESC,motors, and extra wheels, battery, charger, tranny and shocks $30 Carbon Fiber upper links and Alum lower Links (High clearance lowers) $ 5 2 48" 3/16" OD steel tubing Parts on hand: Savage tires and wheels(Overkill?) Savage ball ends (threads 6-32?) Tmaxx drivelines Savage Shocks Savage TVPs Savage tierods and links (4.5" long) for lower links. Savage upper adjustable arms for the upper links. I'm up to $195, I can sell off the rest of the stock TLT-1 and Stampede parts that I don't need. I hope this helps someone else who wants to build a crawler but feel it is out of their price range. I will build a TVP chassis first to play with the suspension setting before building a full on tuber. Hey building is the fun part! I was really excited when I started checking out all the custom crawlers, then I watched tons of vids of the TLT's almost scraped this project till I seen THIS. I was starting to have doubts about making a capable rig with the TLT.. Anyways I'm back! First parts have arrived today. Stampede RTR $90. Now I'm thinking of using the Savage knuckles and outer shafts to adapt my crawler to use the Savage wheels I have. The larger bearings will help alot with the stress. About me: ASE Master certifed and 16 years RC experience. Last edited by mikesativa; 11-28-2006 at 10:33 PM. Reason: Updating parts list for a budget build |

The TLT is the platform that 99% of all 2.2s are based on.

Looks good so far, but the next thing your probably going to want is a stampede or rustler transmission. That way you can lock your center differential and when you eventually stretch the WB you'll already have the tranny. Have fun |

Wow buddy, don't use savage shocks! Those things are HUGE! I suggest T-maxx shocks, Or pick a set up from run2jeepn, Good luck with the build.

You can get a complete pede tranny NIB with bearings for about $50. Doubt youd get $40 for the other parts not to mention no hassle with trying to sell the raped carcass. |

You can modify the stock chassis to work for you. Then when you're ready to spend a little more you can buy a chassis off of one of the vendors on here: SW2, XRC... Good luck with your build and hopefully you can come to one of the WARCRC comps one these days and meet some other crawlers. Nathan |

This is what came with the Stampede I bought for $90 shipped. There is a lot of useful stuff on the truck. Tranny with spur ESC Silver can motor Rx and tx 2 bodies Wheels Tires Shocks 2 servos Check out the deans connectors already installed Have a look: I already have a 3 CH radio to use for this project. It is the stock one from a Warhead or I have a HPI 3CH from a savage. I just had a dream about the design of my chassis and decided to get up and take a quick look to see if anyone has done it yet.. i'm jealous! I think that is definately a great way to start and the way I might consider... never thought of trying to find a rtr pede and just using everything... I will be coming to the table with zero parts available :( I think my parents will get me the tlt-1 kit from UH for xmas, and I know I could squeeze out a used pede if I can find one for $90 shipped I just wonder how much the stretching would cost in the end? guess I will find out =\ My first guess was to do the tlt kit for $70 and one of their radio/servo/esc combos for $60 and just use a 540 motor I have from an old tamiya nissan cab |
