I am certainly very happy to see the prices on the new scx10II trail honcho

Does anyone have one yet

How does it stack up compared to other trail crawlers out there right now
Now I am not gonna lie I was seriously thinking about getting a redcat gen7pro
But at a 70 difference I could get a Axiel scx10II
I just may go with Axiel instead.

Because of their prices I have always wanted to buy something cheaper than Axiel or Traxxas

But now I am thinking of product support and Axiel has excellent support for their products

What does everyone think I would like to find out "thumbsup"

I was looking into getting the trail honcho but it has different axles. The axles have plastic gears and from what I have been told there is no way to upgrade them to metal gears. The suspension links are also plastic. Just some things to think about. If you end up having an issue with the axle gears your going to end up having to buy new axles.

Sorry, but your wrong about plastic gears.
straight from axials site
The ring gear/locker is a single-unit piece made of strong sintered metal, and the pinion is CNC cut for durability
You can check for yourself.

Well shit. To be honest I didn't look. Someone else on the Axial RC facebook group said it and I took it at face value. So whats the real difference then between the trail honchos axles and the standard AR44 axles?

Taken from their site - take a look for yourself... They integrated the link mounts, trusses, and lockouts/c-hubs.

Then there's this:

SCX10 II is a good choice, however you need to upgrade few parts to make her strong ( reliable) and don’t forget to shims your rig properly. "thumbsup"

Well I am torn because of the gen7pro and the new honcho and I know there are tons of reasons not to buy a redcat but for that price and what you get for the money is is not a bad deal at all

Why not go with the Sport and a few upgrades? For under $300 you'll have a truck with metal suspension and steering links, good tires, metal lockers, CV axles, upgraded servo and plenty of other upgrades.

Yeah I thought about the sport but the transmission is plastic gearing and pro is all metal that is the difference between them

Unless you are running retard power through the drive train, the plastic gears are fine. I have a scale truck a built about a year before the first SCX10 came out, it has all plastic gears and have never had to break into the transmission.

No it isn't. The Pro has the plastic gears in the trans too. The Pro gives you meal lockers, CV axles, metal bodied shocks, and a bunch of weight.

Why not go with the vaterra ascender? Either the F100 or I think it's the K10..? C10..? Basically the same setup as the scx10.2 but comes with a few more upgrades right out of the box. I was torn between those two and decided to pre-order the honcho bc lhs can support the spare parts. And I will also pickup the F100 ascender when I pickup the honcho. We got a Christmas bonus at work that I wasn't expecting, so I am deciding to buy two so me and my wife can Scoot around the woods together :D

the price point does make the decision difficult.... im still leaning gn7 because my son has one, and itd be easier to stock parts

I'm new to crawling and have been happy with my trail honcho so far. I've heard the Redcat is a pretty capable machine as well. Please note that the redcat comes with everything needed out of the box. The Axial will need a battery and charger. Not a big deal if you have those already, but adds to the cost differential if you don't.

The sport version of the Gen7 is only $200. BigSquid RC did a review and the Redcat came out rating pretty well. I'm considering getting one for my youngest to bash.

I vote Gen7 Sport and JB Weld or upgrade the plastic diff lockers. If you plan to upgrade to CVD's, definitely upgrade the lockers first since you won't be able to pull out the dogbones after jb welding.

I was thinking similarly. I wanted a cheap rtr, mine for a backup and a newbie rig. I got the trail honcho because I wanted a first gen but missed it.
All said I am very happy with my second gen Honcho. The aftermarket has really taken to the scx10II as well, and that was the main reason I chose it over the Redcat.

Mine has 16 plus miles on it now and still going strong. For more details...
