Talking Nitro RS4 to Electric Conversion.

Blew up my nitro a few months back, and I just finally decided to convert it to electric and make it as fast as I can on a sort of low budget:

Going with a Mamba Max Pro ESC, Using Aluminum Dual Beadlock Mayhem Eng. Wheels, Steel Hex's. Knobby Hybrid Tires. Locked Rear Diff, and a CC 5700kv Brushless! on 3s Lipo

Here's some pictures of what I have so far:

Overall Stripped View, Hytec Servo.

Slight Angle.

Custom Motor Mount.

Just an idea of how I want things placed in.

These are the tires I am thinking of going with:

So, what do you guys think of it so far? I have to order Tires, A Motor, Rear Axles, and Shocks/Springs.

I am not sure of what is the best motor for what I am trying to do, any help with that would be greatly appreciated. I am going to run a 3s to start.

Cool, yeah I think it's coming out pretty good. Is the 5700kv a good choice, or is there something that will be better for me? I want to keep in mind I will be running 2.2 size wheels/tires...

I hope I don't start snapping shafts, which is a good possibility.

Got any pictures of yours?

Made an enclosure/holder for my ESC today, I think it should really work out nicely.

Here's an overall picture:

I need to get my motor, so I can finalize where the mount will be placed... I also need to figure out what pinion to use.

More to come

I have an MT1 to electric conversion on a 1/8 scale custom short course and am running one of the kershaw designs setups. So far so good.

Which motor by Kershaw?

They seem reasonably priced

I know I have the 80a ESC combo and I think it is the 2450kv motor. You can email Dan and tell him what you are looking for. He is really knowledgeable and should be able to tailor something to your specific application.

I wasn't sure if the rear axles broke or fell out so I set out to find them! After about 10 minutes of searching I found this!

So I think I need some heavy duty axles....

Started working on my axles, This is just a prototype piece and I have some changes to be made to it. This piece pictured is made from 100% Monel, its a Nickel Copper Alloy, It resists corrosion and is harder than steel.

I don't think I will need to worry about snapping these:

I need to order hardened pins to use for them, yet.

Here's Rev. B of my custom axle's:

I think this will be more beneficial than the prototype I made earlier today, it will allow for some suspension travel as well.

Thoughts?

I think you have too much traction with the Rovers and that's why you are snapping axles. Cool project though! I have a similiar project on the back burner right now that is a NTC3.

I agree 100%, I am really excited to see how these new axles I am making will work out for me. I'll post some pics when I get a chance!

try running a stiffer spring in the rear to keep the front end from unloading so much. It may help with your axle issue as well.

Made another axle today and I think it just may work!

Started with a solid .25" Monel Rod, approximately 7" long

I used the Vertical Mill to center drill my set holes, came back and opened them to .078"

Then I headed to the Lathe...

I followed my drawing's and continued to turn away un-needed material...

Just about half way finished here, this was the point where it started to take shape.

Half way point! This was my first part that I actually drew, printed and machined. It was really interesting to watch it take shape and to document the progress. Some may not realize the extra steps needed to machine a part, with this you can't just cut it to the length called out in the blueprints and drill the holes / turn down the remainder. You have to compensate for the chuck of the lathe, you have to center drill the ends and set the live center up to support the rod, to insure a true part... it's a lot more than I thought it would be..

Finished on the lathe, cut to lenth... All I am needing is my Hardened Steel Pins yet and it's done... Let's see how it fits........

OLD AXLE:

NEW AXLE:

Fits like a glove! I can't wait to make the other 3 now! I am also thinking about trying to make some heavy duty ends for the axles, I am not sure of the name, but the "Cups." I think that may be the next to fail when I really start to beat on it....

Thoughts? Suggestions? Concerns?

Thanks for looking!
