Default overheated castle

i picked up a traxxas slash 4x4 ultimate a few weeks ago and decided to put in a 5700kv mamba maxx pro system in it. for the pinion i used the optional one that came with the slash.
when i took it out the other day it was a monster on the grass and quick on the streat but the brakes sucked. a few minutes later the motor took a dump and over heated.
i know i need to get a new motor for it but does anyone have an idea to keep the temp down on it. i know the esc can have a sensored motor but would that help at all

You need a lower KV rating that's why they specifically designed a motor and esc combo for that truck . Because all others kept burnin up. If you dont want what was designed for it then try a 1500-2000 KV outrunner plane motor or a 21.5 class is 1300-1500kv depending on brands they should have the torque to gear up an get a decent speed. Without too much heat your always safer with a Slower motor and higher voltage.

Just don't gear it too high.

Also you are better off running it on 2 cell rather then 3, it helps keep the temp down.

I hear nothing but good things about the new 4-pole motors. The 3800kv seems to go instantly when sold on other forums. Good torque and lots of speed. But yeah, heat sink and fan are cheap insurance to keep the motor cool.

Castle's site specifically says not to use the 5700kv on the slash 4x4.

had the same problem in my 2wd slash, toasted the 5700kV motor, sent it to Castle, did a motor swap, upgraded to a 4 pole 5700kV and geared down on the pinion and geared up on spur...still stupid fast and harder to control on 3S.
