| need advice converting Slash 2wd to Brushless.
ive got a slash 2wd i want to convert to brushless. i want to add proline slingshot paddles and take it to the beach. from what i understand sand takes alot of power/wheel speed. ive got a hobbywing 4000kv and origonal sidewinder. (from what i researched the stock VXL system was also 4000 kv) question #1. do i need 2s or 3s? #2. what pinion should i use? with stock spur? (86?) #3. do i need to upgrade any drivetrain? driveshafts etc? Last edited by STANG KILLA SS; 04-19-2012 at 01:47 PM. |

Here is what I did, you may change it up a little, but this was my set up... Was running the stock speed controller and 3500kv Reedy motor, and with a 14t pinion and my stock spur, I think 86t, and on 2s and enough traction I could pull the front tires. For grins I took the 3800kv, castle 4-pole and MMP out of my SC10 4x4 and dropped it in the 2wd SC10, with the same 2s pack. The torque was AMAZING.. I couldn't get traction, no matter what I did.. I kept adding teeth to the pinion until I ran out of slot on the motor plate.. It wasn't so much the RPM difference, but the instant torque difference the 4-pole motor had. Just for grins, I picked up one of these. TowerHobbies.com | 020-0090-00 DuraTrax 1/10 Element 3900kV Brushless System It is a sidewinder with a different sticker on it, and a castle non-sensored motor. She is in the truck, just haven't had a chance to put the power to it yet. This might be a combo to go with for what you are looking for, on 2s anyway. The others I would go with would be one of these two. I had a rustler, which is pretty much the same as a 2wd slash. It had the vxl(which i thought to be a 3500kv) And panther paddles on 2s it was crazy. Would wheelie forever. Ran it on 3s a few times and starting twisting driveshafts. That was the only weakspot i ever had putting the power to the ground. I cant remember the exact gearing sorry. But it was right around the middle of the stock pinion and traxxas' "high speed" pinion for the rusty.

I run my Slash with VXL on 5000mah 3s, but 54/17 32 pitch gears (Jato spur is bolt on) in the sand, same paddle setup you have. Top end is crazy fast, run time is ok, doesn't get too hot. I run the BAJR body so it's less likely to blow over at speed, although it still does on command just mashing the trigger. I run CVD's, stock shafts blow right out. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXKLZ7&P=ML Last edited by Cheatin; 04-19-2012 at 06:35 PM. Reason: added link for spur |

Standard CVD's so far no issue, but if they crap out MIP makes these too. Best price I've seen is around 60 bucks... http://miponline.com/store/mip11106.html Last edited by Cheatin; 04-19-2012 at 06:21 PM. Reason: found link |

I would recommend hot bodies 32p spur and pinion for it (steel) and do not yes do not run the dust cover over them. It is better at letting sand in then keeping it out and once it gets in it doesn't want to leave. I would upgrade the outer ends of the shafts and gear it down a bit. too run cool and have some good tourqe.

2S and 32p gears if you're in the sand.

I ran mine with the gear cover on, i just put a piece of electrical tape over the inside and outside of the hole. Never had any problems after many many runs on the sand.

Like the others said, vxl system, 2s and 32 pitch jato spur and 23 pinion. I ran 3s last time out and must have split the rotor or something on my vxl. It will spin, but under load it just stutters and spins roughly without turning pinion.

| Re: need advice converting Slash 2wd to Brushless. Same thing happened to mine. Pull it apart and JB Weld the magnet back on the rotor shaft. Pain to get the aluminum ends off, but once you do, remember where they were on the shaft when you JB it all back together.

I have novak sport 8.5t system in my slash and MIP rive shafts are a must, i've even broke one of those shafts! just on 2s lipo. it stays cool with 17/84 gearing and still hauls balls! only other things that i've replaced are the rear bearing carriers, front hubs, and the front shock hoop.. OH and tires! |
