| Really Need Traxxas Stampede Gearing help
Hello all! I recently replaced my stock ESC and motor for the Stampede 2WD Grave Digger. I put in the Castle Creations Sidewinder 3 with the 6900KV motor. It said in the manual that I should gear up on the Spur gear, and gear down on the pinion. I am at 12t Pinion, and 90t/48p Spur, and I am still getting pretty hot on the motor and esc, I have also reduced the timing on the motor as well, but it is still getting pretty hot. What my question to you fellas is, where do I go from here? Do I go with a smaller spur, and a larger pinion, or smaller pinion and larger spur? I really appreciate any help you guys could give. Thank you for your time. Last edited by SteelWheelRC; 08-25-2013 at 01:48 AM. |

Put in a lower kV motor, the 6900 is just too hot for running in a vehicle like that. A 5700kV would probably be the biggest I'd run, but would prefer something in the 3500kV-4600kV range in a truck like the Stampede, Ruckus, Wheely King, even the Strike.

Yep, if you can get a lower kv motor. I ran a Tacon 4420 in mine and it was a monster. If you cant, get a heat sink and some fans, then open the body up so you can get airflow over your electronics.
