Cool Apache c1 ratrod facelift

Just wanted to update the look of my Apache C1 buggy from HPI.

Cool look but was one of the hardest and most intricate paint jobs I have done....
Exciting and stressful at the same time.

The body used is the ProLine Rat Rod body for the 1:10 Traxxas summit/revo.

I will post pictures later when I have a few minutes...

enjoy and comment...

That rod is awesome. I was looking at that same body the other day thinking how cool it would be to do one some day but my paint skills are no where near what they need to be to do it. How'd you do all the motor work?

The painting is easy the masking and re masking and masking some more is what took me hours to do.... Best advice is buy lots of tape and really sharp exacto blades.... You will use a lot of tape and if the blade need to stay sharp to cut out some details. Also a variety of brushes for ultra fine details.

I finally found tires and wheels to give me the "super truck rat rod" off the farm look I wanted.

These rims are deep and have a total negative off set to push the wheels out making it wider...

I will get pics or vid later on the car but here are the tires and rims I selected..

Image of US quarter and dime inside front of rim... Told you DEEP....

Im so upset!!!!!!

Was visiting st Pete and got great video at a local skate park, oh I couldn't wait to show the flips and jumps wheelies and that super jump.. It was so worth the smash landing into a concrete seat with right front tire since I couldn't stop fast enough...

Yep I thought it would be one of my best bash vids yet.... But I dropped my camera and so long video..... SUCKS!

Now I need to fixit and try to do something like this ( again) back home in a few days...

Anyway just took s pic with my phone to share the end result of my " perfect" bash vid.

Wanted to share with you my field fix for my buggy when I broke my front spindles.

As usual, necessity is the mother of invention....

Some basics pulled from video:
1- clipped of ends to make a smoother contact patch
2- make sure to pre-drill holes to prevent cracking the plastic
3-mount as usual using washers as an added measure of security
Bash the heck out of it until your parts come in....
Video of process and test run

Please comment and I hope this will help....

That is one of the best paint jobs I've seen. Love the look of a hot rod. Sucks about the crash!

Well some more follow-up. So far the body looks good but finding its weak. I was in pile-up and one of the cars hit me broadside at speed and the shell cracked and compressed .

Anyway here are some pics after our last bash and it too a beating but was not as strong ax the stock c1 shell.

This is no shelf-queen.... Lol

Very Cool, I was trying to make a fully custom ratrod out of a Rustler a few years back but never finished the project.

Okay, mental note! This body is more show than go! I have hit and tumbled harder with stock body and it held out slot better.

Here are some pics ( video to follow) of my rat rod after a lunchtime bash session.

Enjoy!

Comment and share... Again video to follow as soon as I can...

Ok, I finally got video of latest bash session that caved in the rear of the when it tumbled.

Well I thought I had enough room that I could pin the throttle so did you can really hear the motor whine up then the ballooning tires would not take my steering input and crash! Right into the curb. At the end of the video you can the last segments when I was going to do speed runs and I lost control... Rough day for the C1...

Ok, got chance today while painting my new shell to fix my wing mount....

Adjusted to what I think is a better height in preparation for the new shell and to protect the old one...
