Default Shane's HPI Mini-Trophy Desert Truck

I saw one of these at Nationals, I think it was Badger's, and I needed to find one. It's not mini like the name says. Got this one in a trade with Tugboatjoe.

Wheelbase 12 9/32"
Length 21"
Width 9 3/16"
Height 6 3/8"

I got it about two days ago and automatically put a 3S lipo in it. Has MambaMax 5700kV system in it. This rig rips! It handles great. It has a really low CoG and stays planted. It can get tipsy on high speed quick turns. But I am getting used to driving it. Only a few runs on it. Running the stock steering servo and it is ok.

A little soft on the suspension so I took some extra 100mm shocks i had around and put some extra long rod ends on em. Removed the inside travel limiters. Filled with 75wt oil. Refilled the rear stockers with 75wt oil. And bam! 4 shocks in the rear. The truck is all setup for 4 shocks in the rear. Really soaks up bumps alot smoother now.
Haven't messed with the front shocks yet.
Everything is plastic on the cage and chassis but seems like it will hold up.

The wheels are 1.9 er's and the tires are a good compound. Did I mention this think looks badass?

Some garage pictures. I plan on getting another body set and doing a different paint scheme.

damum! that looks sick. Mine will be getting a new look soon enough. I like those blitz wheels. I stare at mine about 30 a night. Take off a panel and stare some more.

I am really surprised how it handles 3S too. The 4 shock setup out back definitely helps soak up terrian much better.

blitz wheels are not a direct swap. i had to use the rear hexes up front and wider hexes out back to clear everything. i also had to kick out the rear fender mounts to widen up the rear so the tires could "tuck".

So, this is probably common knowledge but do not remove the front shock limiters. Causes the front to droop out too much and dogbones like to dissappear in the gravel. I will be putting the limiters back in tomorrow.

That is all... and new cheap lipo and blitz wheels/tires on the way.

Ordered one of these. TBG body, not HPI. Check out the Lexan light rack

It says 15-24 days for delivery from Canada so we'll see. I have paint sheme in mind. Maybe the Ken Block 2011 Fiesta...? maybe? Anyone?

I was running the truck yesterday and it quit moving. I though I had stripped a the spur gear from a high speed flip but the pinion had just come loose on the motor shaft. Disassembled it last night. Took about 20 minutes to get down to the motor. This transmission is cool, well spur to pinion, no reduction. The motor mount is a cam-style unit.

I'll get some pictures tonight of the innards.

You'll be a masking king for the scheme.

Buying the masks for it now. Parma has some masks to help out. I am not a master at anything when it comes to painting.

Bought one of these over the weekend. I have gotten several lipos from this place with good results.

Huh? I thought the whole Ford thing was the only thing that was cool about Ken Block

And those mini-trophy trucks are badass. As if I needed one more thing to spend money on

Started putting the truck back together after I found the problem with the loose pinion and took some shots.

Also, I added some thin lexan to the front of the chassis to keep some of the debris out of the chassis. Small 2mm pre-drilled holes in the gussets are slick.

Ran this around the parking lot today at Pinnacle Mountain State Park, AR. This truck is a beast with a MM 5700kv on 11.1v lipo. It's best at 60% throttle EPA.

Rottenbelly's son provided the transportation with the honcho and trailer.
